Why does one weapon have two names? Does anyone know what the proper name for it is? Also does anyone know how the two names for it started instead of just one name?

Thanks for your information.

Good question! I've never known why.. isn't the gauss also called the Tau cannon? O_O. I use Gluon/Gauss myself.

Embarrassingly, I could have occasionally called the "Gauss" "Egon", although I think you're correct with it being an alternate name for "Gluon". I'm pretty sure "Tau" and "Gauss" are used for the same gun, though. But... who am I? Who the hell am I? >:(

wasn't gauss the one you can charge (also called tau cannon) and egon the one with the backpack? they're not the same.
(are you talking about hl1 or hl2 or something else?)

Seriously, guys. It's not so hard.

Gluons are particles that react with quarks (subatomic particles) meaning that the gluon/egon probably works on that principle. Egon is the name of the guy in Ghostbusters who has a gun that looks exactly like that which sucks the ghosts into the ghost-traps.

Gluon is the scientific name and Egon is the slang around black mesa.

Gauss was a scientist who did a lot of work with magnets and electrostatic charges, Tau is a greek letter, in keeping with the naming scheme of many things Black Mesa such as Lambda Complex. A Tau Lepton is also a subatomic particle, but i doubt that this gun has anything to do with it.

Hi, BTW.

I thought it's nickname of Egon was from Ghostbusters.

What with Egon making all the technology in Ghostbusters, and the Gluon gun looks rather similar to the proton pack...

Oh hello and peace Nickelplate my homie. We had some good times on this forum together. I remember seeing your "gallery of horror" picture and I was terrified because you had massive arms.

It's nice to see the new snarkpit. The email feature is great for a guy like me who is only active in one thread. But i gotta say, I'm disappointed. I worked so hard to get my snarkmarks. And they are all gone now.
I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.
