Long Hiatus Over

16 years ago by Le Chief

Today I spent a good few hours working on Night Terror, the last time I spent that long on Night Terror would have been a double digit number of months ago. Now that I'm free to work on Night Terror (no more exams or major projects), I'm hoping that I can release the mod by this year or early next year.

The first thing I did was delete a large space I was working on for an arena styled encounter that just wasn't working out and I started to flesh out the spaces that are going to take it's place. I then made two new concrete wall textures which will be replacing some of the default Half-Life 2 textures I used but the textures I made don't suit the areas I intend to use them very well so I'll play with them a bit more tomorrow.

I then was re-arranging some props in the exterior spaces at the beginning of the mod and tweaked the lighting a bit.

Later that day (technically today, actually it's 12am now..) I installed 3D Studio Max, downloaded the smd export/import plugins from Wunder Boy's website and spent probably 20 minutes refreshing my modeling memory, mainly remembering what settings and such I needed to compile the models. I've now got a page of points on my desk on the basic things I need to do to create a static prop from scratch for Half-Life 2.

I think I'll have a shower now, feed my fish and go to bed. Tomorrow I'm going to have a crack at modeling some foliage and keep working on the Night Terror maps plus if I have time I might take a look at the Half-Life 2 Source code and see how much more sophisticated it is than Half-Life 1.

G'night!

My long-belated entry into the ill-fated dm2sp mapping contest has reached beta. The beta map can be downloaded here and the beta thread is here. I would greatly appreciate any criticism you are willing to give.

Working On Night Terror Again =)

16 years ago by Le Chief

Finally working back on Night Terror again, I'm excited!

Because it's been roughly 6 months since I have worked on the mod, I'm going to begin by doing some pre-production work, to define the direction I want the mod to head in and revise the current shape of Night Terror.

I just wrote a news article on the Night Terror Mod DB page.

Would be great to see this project finished before the end of this year.

Fingers crossed!

I haven't stopped mapping!

16 years ago by Niborius

Just if anyone was wondering, I haven't stopped mapping. In fact, I'm making a map for Half-Life right now. A Single-Player map to be precise.

The reason why it was so quiet all the time is because I wasn't in the mood anymore to map. Gladly now I am and I'm having alot of fun again with it!

PS: This is my first journal entry. :D

Dear Diary,

I have shitloads of free time so I think I shall begin mapping again. Also there is a cow jumping emotion that I feel needs being highlighted :cowjump:

In reality I am making this entry in my excitment of finding this interesting feature after my long leave of the pit.

Must ask if my journal could be called Diary, just mine.

Hugs and Kisses,

I have now changed my plan for this map. I'm still going to release it as a multiplayer map but I am working it into a singleplay map for a new mod project. This will be second map in line for me to work on for the mod. So this map has again been pushed back some.

I'm back from the dead so to speak and into mapping again. Finished a old map named "Shanghai Harbor" which was from China Campaing for Sudden-Impact mod, but is now exclusive for Sven-Coop 4. It has taken a long time before it was released but u can finaly beta test the map now.

Managing my Time

16 years ago by Riven

Yes, I've been spurred to write this journal simply to have something worth reading on the front page for a while, but since I've decided to write this, I might as well have fun with it! :nag:

I am currently a student enrolled in a School of Architecture here in the Southern half of the United States of America. Having started mapping earlier in my life (before architecture school), I found architecture to be a reasonable career choice to help extend my love of creating spaces (in any medium). :hee:

Ever since I started college and thus moved away from home, I found that time management was at a premium. I used to complete at least 2 projects a year in mapping -not the case anymore. It's not so much the time I spend in class or for homework (as building hand models for architecture can be very time consuming) it's the extra things, and I'm not talking about extracurricular activities, I mean socializing. You see, for me, I've never been a real socializer. :outtahere: Yes, I went to an occasional party, or friends house, but all throughout high school I didn't have a whole lot of really good friends, and the ones that I did 'hang out' with were at least 10 miles away. Meaning it would take a little while to get there so I didn't go very often, and being an only child I had a lot of time to myself, so I'd spend it at the computer. :computer: It was great fun, and I don't regret it at all.

But now living away from home has put my good friends within a couple of blocks of my own apartment. So what does that mean? -I want to hang out with them, and they only live within walking distance -You can bet I spend a lot of time with them all. What that does though, is it makes my mapping suffer -considerably. If I decided I'd like to take the time to map I might get 'fussed at' :swear: for not showing up the latest episode of some sitcom with the friends. So, ever since I've moved here, I've had to learn (and am still learning) how to separate my time from my friends with my love for mapping (and any other personal project I might have started). :geek:

What am I trying to say?

-Well, I just want to let people know (who care anyway) that I haven't given up on mapping or any such things as that; I simply am at a battle for time to complete such tasks. It matters to me a lot and I wish I could see a way to better manage it. Until then I'll need to find the little 'nooks' of time I can squeeze out of each day to devote to it. I can only imagine it might get worse as I graduate, but we'll see. This might become more important in my life later down the road... :ghost:

Thanks for reading

-Riven
