Hey its me :leper: Half-dude,

Hey all, I just got the HL model viewer and it lets me import custom skins. But I don't know the first thing about making skins. Does anyone know how, or know of any titorials?

If you're using only the model viewer, you're limited in what you can do, but it's really easy to make custom skins. First, export the texture maps. Second, change these. Finally, import the new textures and save the changes. The textures will line up exactly with the ones they are replacing. Easy as cake. Bada-bing.

All .bmps are imported and exported as 8-bit uncompressed. To convert a Photoshop file to this format:
  • Convert your document mode to "Indexed Color"
  • File >> Save As... .bmp
  • (a window will come up, you'll have to most likely select 8-bit. do NOT check the RLE compression checkbox.)
  • And import! As easy as that. 256 colors might wash out a lot of the richness of a texture sometimes though, so be careful.
