Sure brass  i've got lotsa nice rustic planks in the texture pack im using, but nothing suitable to use as beams... it needs to look like one cut of wood, fairly mossy and old - if you see the pic, im sure you can guess the atmosphere im trying to achieve - medieval/castle/semi-gothic feel..

If you have the tfc2.wad, it has some good wood textures that would fit well into that map.
Textures: eastwood0x (x = 0 - 4)

i dunno if you guys have already noticed this.. but for textures like wood and brick, sometimes the limit of detail is way too low. in some taboo game i downloaded recently, all the textures are 2 times the required size, then scaled down in WC... so the resolution is HUGE, but the texture is still small. basically, make another wood texture 2 times the size it should be. 128x32 instead of 64x16.. you know.

tim, with the HL1 engine, smaller textures scaled up work better than bigger ones scaled down, they don't always look better, but from an r_speeds perspective, sometimes its required.
just to clarify why some textures are smaller bud

yes yes i know... but i wasnt talking about rspeeds. i know having a mat with twice the resolution with cause twice the stress on the GPU, but it still makes for a better quality of image. ive tried it a few times with scanned pictures and such... i ought to get some shots! you'd never think its in 256colors
