Hey all snarkpitters out there!

The internet on my "good" (Means just acceptable) computer is broken. (Suspicion falls on internet-card)
Since this computer I'm writing on now is running on a NVIDIA GeForce2 Ti- graphics-card i guess it wouldn't be able to run Hammer. (Probably doesn't have Hard Drive enough either)

So, i would like to know, is it posibble to install Steam on this computer,
Log On, and, legal or illegal, transfer the Account Information to my other computer, so that i can use offline mode,
and map again? Please, I'm desperate!

Please not too many "Not Possible" posts, since that would destroy my hope, and probably encourage me to suicide
Looks mysteriously around after someone who would do it at purpose

HELP ME!!

I've transfered gcfs before in order to update without actually going online - which is also perfectly legal. However, I don't think you could do an entire installation or anything. It very much depends on how much updating you have to do. If it's small, then theoretically yes.

You could in theory transfer the sdk gcf file and then run the sdk from your desktop, but I'm not sure whether that would work. Give it a go and see what happens.

Yes, you can is the simple answer. I'll give you a simple installation-

Instal Steam on your other PC. Copy the directory and a couple of the steam files over, someone else will tell you the exact files, or you can use google to find the entitre method of reinstalling steam without logging on. However, if the steam acount wasn't in offline prior to the computer messing up, then you're screwed.

??? I don't think any of you guys got it... Simply: I want to be able to go in offline mode on the other comp without connecting to the internet with it...

Ah! Sorry. Do you mean transfering saved password/general stuff which is necessary for offline mode (i.e. not gcfs)? If so, I don't think so. Sorry.

nononono there is hope!

ClientRegistry.blob in your steam folder, take that one from the computer that has internet, justmake sure to shut steam to offline mode so that it writes. Then copy thatfile over to your non internet steam.

Worked for me whan all i could access the internet with was a 233 MHz with 16 mb of ram....that was only a few months ago

I said what Greendragon said lol. You need steam and you need all the game files to map, and as Greendragon said, you need to log off to keep the clientregistry.blob ok (I couldn't remember the name of the file).

I'm not sure how good you are with computers, but I'd simply suggest connecting another modem to your main PC with steam on it so you can at least log off with steam and put it in offline mode.

Now isn't steam a truely god awful system?

once you log off, you can't open in offline mode. you need to exit steam while still logged on, and then restart steam with no net connection available. then you get the option of starting in offline mode.

Seconded. They should have made offline mode a bit easier to sort out. It was very hard for me to figure out how to use it. If it weren't for my friends here, I never would have because the method makes no sense at all. The fact that it works is secondary. People shouldn't have to do something backward to move forward.

I thought that was blatantly obvious by my post tbh, but your wrong fishy, you need to put offline mode whilst you have an internet connection- I remember I had this problem when I moved into my flat last year.

Dangit, now you're confusing me. (stop laughing at how f**king easy it is)

I could have swore that you:

1) Log in to Steam.
2) Exit Steam.
3) Shut internet connection off.
4) Log in in offline mode.

Is that not how we done it last month guys?

  • Login steam
  • Ensure offline mode is enabled in settings
  • Exit steam
  • Disconnect internet
  • Restart steam
  • Hit "start in offline mode"

what am i wrong about this time?

what i said was don't log out, as you suggested. once logged out, it doesn't matter what is selected, it won't start in offline mode.

HAVE ANYONE READ MY POST?! my internet does't work for god sake!
The internet-card is broken! I can't go on the internet no matter where in the world i take my comp! And no, i can't just transfer the .gcf files and map, because then i wouldn't be able to even test my map!!

My God, i see that all those replies came and thought that an answer to my problem is amongst them, and then i realise that everyone is talking on how to go in offline mode, and that everyone guessed about what my problem was?! Omg... Stop spamming my thread.

Christ, get off your high horse man. Threads go off topic on the
snarkpit - get over it already. People have tried to help you out and
I'm sorry their suggestions didn't help, but shouting at established
members for doing nothing wrong when you've only been here a few
weeks isn't going to win you any fans.

Discussing how to go in offline mode isn't exactly what i would call helping me out
Just got a little pissed, that's all... I did appreciate the help, especially the first three answrs, but when people begin discussing an already rejected answer, and make 4 posts about it, then i get mad. Didn't meant to offend any of you, sorry...

if i had the same problem, and was able to read, i would probably have pieced together enough information from this thread to;

1. log into my steam account on someone elses computer

2. exit steam without logging out

3. copy the clientregistry.blob back to my own comp

4. see if it works
