I recently bought Civilization 4 with my christmas money. Now, I know this game has had some performance issues, and several patches have been released. Can I install the most recent one, or do I have to install other patches in a specific order ?

I'm not booting this game until I've patched it. My PC is not really onto to recommended specifications.

Usually there will be a patch from the previous version to current, and a patch that will patch any version to the current version. You want that patch. Its usually huge.

It depends. I know with Dawn of War you had to download all 5 patches in order.

The patch 1.52 (and 1.09) is wonderful. You can patch straight from retail to 1.52 I believe. It's improved performance a lot, and you can turn on an optional memory saver that improves late-game performance a lot.

Civ4... I'm just beginning to comprehend the sheer depth of some strategies. The Civics system alone can make or break your game. Plus the worker automation is really smart and... okay, words can't comprehend how great Civ4 is. I'd say the only flaw is that the combat, while improved, still isn't that captivating, when compared to other aspects that are much more satisfying.

sighs

I've had mine ages and only loaded it.

I've been busier than a cat covering s**t since long before Christmas and it looks like that trend is going to continue for a while yet.
