for the inside of the turn, use half a cylinder. make a cylinder of about 12 sides and cut it in half. For the outside, look at Orpheus's tutorial.

I'd suggest using the Arch tool for the outside curve, but Orpheus's method would work aswell.

Vertex manipulation can be the god of mapping if you stick to useing triangles to avoid invalid brushes. try it out. make the floor of your hallway with triangles, and manipulate it into the shape you want. it's a high poly method, but that often doesn't matter in small areas.

I have a really sexy hallway that I did up a while ago that curves, with a bordered ceiling and a border on the floor. When I have time, I'll write up a tut for it.

I'd also recommend using the arch tool - I find it easier to create complex curves and it cuts down on the required vertex manipulation, if any is needed at all.

sadly this question IS PART of the database, and could have been solved if researched..

and it was decided that dietz's curves are more right than mine.. use those.

I would highly suggest NOT using arch or cylinder.

Arches and cylinders are fine, you just need to realign the verticies to grid. they still save time.

Place a cylinder so that it gives the curve you want, then use this as a guide for manipulating the wall brushes to match up to it, before deleting the cylinder.

Hey, if you're using quark just click New Poly/Shape Builders/ and choose your arch or bevel maker.

I came across this post while searching how to do this very thing. I couldn't find anything else that describes how to do a curved border. I know how to make arches and the like, but I would like to have my arch look like a real roman-style arch with a keystone. Can anyone suggest how to do this? I need to know how to curve the texture around the arch instead of having the texture all parallel.

Thanks.

you should start a new topic, asking how to do what you want with the textures, instead of bumping a topic that has been dead for over 2 YEARS  , and was only vaguely connected in the first place.

christ.....do people even USE the database anymore?? im thinking its either that they are too young to think objectively/subjectively on their own, or just flat ass laziness......maybe a mixture of both eh?.... ///rant

just out of curiosity jeffjohnvol, in your research, did you even read the top frame boxed in green?

Firstly, I concur with the consensus. You should begin a new thread on this.

Secondly, depending on the arch and the texture used, sometimes its impossible to properly apply a texture to an arch. You may need to create your own, which lucky for you there is great tutorials on texture making too.
Good luck.

I realize that the arch tool is powerful, and that there are a lot of
tut's that use it, but are there any tutorials speficically set on how
to use the arch tool? When it comes to curves thus far, I've been
building them all by hand D:

Decided to add this to the heap since there's so much discusion on the arch tool =P

Turning an arch on its side and a bit of vertex manip can create some pretty cool curves.

You would need to use multiple arches, assuming you wanted things like bases and trims, but it could be done relatively easy. Look at my Double_Trouble map. It had many vertex manip'ed arches.
