I am buying a new LCD this weekend. What do you guys think of this one?

The price is good, and the specs appear to be decent too. I came across this article as well. All the reviews seem positive.

What do you think?

Pages are loading slow for me today Doc. Sorry I am not patient enough to wait.

From what I have heard, the most important factor is its delay time. Try to get one less than 12ns.

You know, our local wizard will be here tonight. He is even on your timezone. Crono will give you the poop on flatscreens for sure.

BTW, why you been so quiet? Some mommy beat you up for telling her that her child is a puke?

You guys are going to laugh at me, but I'll tell you the truth.

I am hanging out at the CS:S Steam forum lately. Yes, the discussion is immature, but I have been hooked on CS for the past few months.

I am now looking more at this one from Hyundai. It's got a great review from most sites (including Tom's Hardware).

Congrats on your uncleship

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Hyundai uses Samsung screens. I have a
Hyundai L72S 17" 8ms, the color is great and I notice very little
ghosting. Compared to my brother's budget-ish Hyvision 17", the viewing
angle and color (vividousity?) are stupendous. I was going to go with a
cheap-ish 19", but when I looked at them side-by-side in the store,
this one was the clear choice. I would recommend using "reddish" color
as opposed to "bluish". The bluish on an LCD is a lot colder than on a
CRT. But yeah, LCDs are sweet, I don't think you'll regret buying one
as long as it's good quality. The good brands I know of are Viewsonic,
Samsung, and Hyundai.

If you can find one cheap enough, I suggest one of the cinema mac screens, they're beautiful monitors. As long as you don't mind a whitish-chrome color. I've seen them for as low as $299 (17"). Sadly, I can't find anything that low now the 20" is $799.

Other than that, anything is fine except ViewSonic ... everyone has problems with their LCDs ... their CRTs are alright though.

I personally have had an IBM TFT/LCD for about 6 years ... it was used when I got it (about 2 years old) and it still runs fine.

Even Dell LCD monitors are pretty nice. A 19" one of those is about $320 Might actually be cheaper to buy one of their computers, keep the monitor and sell the machine
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I have a Viewsonic VX2000 20" http://www.viewsonic.com/support/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/xseries/vx2000/index.htmand it is absolutely awesome. I have never had any problems with it and I run everything at 1600 x 1200 with excellent clarity of images.

Looks good, but Iiyama make the best monitors there are. Mainly used by graphics people and shizzle, they make a standard person one which both me and my flatmate have, and serve us well in games and all.

You did try www.pricewatch.com , right?

Good luck Doc.

[edit] Click on monitors.. then type Hyundai in the monitor search option NOT the site search.

You might do better. In fact, I am sure of it.

Actually, www.newegg.com has a lower price than pricewatch--$299.99 versus $310.99. Oh, and newegg ships for free.

Newegg for the win!

I'd have to say pricegrabber.com is better than pricewatch.com, it's easier to see what is really the smarter buy (item and seller ratings). Newegg is good, it's on my list of places I like to buy stuff from, along with tigerdirect (rebates mostly) and zipzoomfly (good prices and free shipping a lot of the time). Newegg is where I look when browsing, then I use pricegrabber to find the best deal

Newegg still got the lowest price, even according to pricegrabber.com. The same model is listed for $299.00 at pricegrabber.

I am glad though, because I already paid for it at newegg.com.

Not if one is determined to have those inches... (ahem) Get your mind out of the gutter gents. :dodgy:

One thing I have noticed is, no matter the purchase origin, a deal is only a deal if you do not feel like you were screwed.

If I wanted a 400 dollar monitor, and I liked my 400 dollar monitor, it wouldn't bother me to find a 350 dollar monitor of the same specs. As long as, I liked it.

shrugs

I reckon its all perspective.

Personally, I might have chosen Docs money and picked out a less named variety, but shot for 20 inches. I dunno.

I just installed my 19" LCD.

Unfortunately, it has one dead pixel. But I could live with that.

However, when I tried playing Half-Life 2 again, the ammo display in the HUD is messed up. It's kinda split into sections. I can't really read the ammo that way.

I am sure someone else has had this problem before too, but after searching through the forum and the Steam support (plus Googling), I failed to find a solution for this.

Anyone has any ideas?

[EDIT]: Nevermind. I changed the resolution. When I restarted the game, everything was fine.

Yeah satch, HL2 does that everytime you change resolution. Just restart and it should fix itself.
