Valve based most of hl2 and the city you're in on European cities. I think there's been a thread here before about this too (way back in 2004, maybe)

I remember reading somewhere that City17 is based in Russia. I would have to think so, considering the communism-style theme, similar architecture, giant horses on pedastiles, our favorite "Father Gregori" and his russian accent, and other things relating to that country.

"Communism-style theme"? What does that mean?
"Similar architecture"... well, I saw a few buildings in HL2 that looked sorta kinda like these ones by my house... C17 is based in Seattle, WA! Because you can totally pinpoint where a city is by the style of the buildings which are always undeniably unique to any specific country/state/city/town/neighborhood.

Andrei, is that book worth spending the money on? It looks interesting, but I can't tell if I want to spend money on it.
