I've been trying to get the Wiimote to work well with PC FPS but it just doesn't go hand in hand, because you can't move the cross hair around without looking (which makes it VERY difficult to control).
It seems like they're adding a bounding box to HL2 to eliminate that. Hopefully they'll fix all the mistakes Wii developers have made in the FPS category. (Use a circle instead of a box, make it have a variable radius). Eliminating PPJoy doesn't make sense, I don't know anyone who willingly uses a joystick for an FPS game. But eliminating GlovePIE is a great step.
Great. Thank you for pointing this out!

? quote:As far as I know, two infra-red sources will work just as well. It's the controller itself that determines it's location, based on the location of the two IR sources in the sensor bar.
At least, that's what I heard about it.
Yes. This is how it works. When I want to use it on my computer (which is how I've been messing with it) and use pointing stuff, I use candles.
They actually output more IR light than the sensor bar so they work better, I've noticed less "jumping" of the pointer, for example. But when it controls views or something like that, both are the same. The cable that attaches the sensor bar to the Wii, as you can imagine, is only for power. I've thought about making a "powerful" IR circuit that connects to a usb port for awhile, but I doubt that'll flourish. A lot of 3rd party companies are making wireless sensor bars now. But they're going for like $30-$40, which is ridiculous, because the thing costs close to $5-$10 to make.
To note, this is why things like sun light interfere with the Wii-mote.
Another thing: If you want to sit closer to what you're pointing at, you can put the IR transmitters closer together. Of course, you could "calculate" it with some geometry too to suite what works best for you.

Well, you need to remember that a flame isn't a single point of heat. The point of heat, never really changes even if the flame moves drastically, but still in the same area. It's pretty indistinguishable to the remote as heat output is coming from the same "point". I would also imagine that the remote is designed to ignore momentary spikes as any sensible device would be. (Though, the same isn't true for the accelerometers inside. It takes some heavy "mucking" to get those giving outputs you want)

as far as the Wiimote thing goes.. I have a Nintendo Wii (16 hour wait for it), and my friend showed me how you can actually get 2 candles with nickels near th flame. with wires going to each of them and plugged into the sensor bar port. This is a makeshift sensor bar. i have no idea whatsoever how he did it. but all i know is that he did. and it looked totally awesome.. so in theory you ould just need the connector, somr wires, candles, and a couple nickels to make your own sensor bar.
PS. ill try and get him to record a video of him making it.
