Relax, breath take a chill pill, re-read your post before you post it. I'm sure we can fix this for you  . Now, I need you to post a picture of the problem, I think I know what you are talking about though, and if i'm right, than its your graphics card.

Do you have a crappy computer tnkqwe?

If you put in a name for your sky that you don't have corresponding files for, the game will display that really annoying pink/black checkerboard pattern. double check that you have files for the sky you're using in the env/sky folder. Reminder, if the sky files are named beach_dn, beach_up, beach_rt, etc. the correct name is "beach_" with the underscore. I know there's a few skyboxes circulating that are silly like that.

Or you could do the sky properly. Each of the 6 sky textures must be 256x256, in the right tga format, and end in lt, rt, bk, up ...

Where did you go wrong?

Skybox textures don't go inside .wad files. They have to be .tga's, and go in a specific folder - where all other sky textures are (can't remember which folder on top of my head).

What does go inside the .wad is a texture named 'sky'. How that texture looks doesn't matter, it will be invisible in the game and instead, show the real sky. It's really just a way to let the game know where you want the sky to be visible.

So uhh, what exactly did you do and what did you expect to happen? I really can't tell what exactly your problem is...

The 6 tga's go inside half-life/valve/gfx/Env. Have a look inside there and you will see all the other skys.

As Captain P said, the sky texture basically lets the engine know that you want sky to be rendered on that surface and if you have a light environment, light needs to be calculated during a compile.

Yeah, it has to be called "sky". Not "sky2" or "1sky" or "mysky", just sky.
