I am getting just insane amounts of these e-mails with these attachments, it's just nutty. I checked my mail for the first time in two hours and found about forty of em. But they're all coming in my cashcarstar.hlgaming.com address, not my home school address. Anyone know a good way that I can stop this general craziness from flooding my inbox? Is there any possibility edgenetwork will get on the ball and stop these things from flying through their mail servers? This bandwith expenditure has got to be killing them.

Download mailwasher and create some filters.

If you have a hotmail account, you'll need the pro version.

If not, the regular version will do just fine.

Is this the new worm thingy that's meant to attack MS and SCO sites?

Yes, but I have had like.. 2 emails with the virus... I think the more people who are likely to open random attatchements you know, the more likely you are to get the virus sent to you. Everybody I know who would have done that has taken me of their email list, as every time they sent me useless 'reply 10 times or hotmail closes down' forwards (or similar), I emailed them back saying that these emails are a total waste of time

I've talked to like five people with my hlgaming address, ever. I would really be interested to know if other people with hlgaming sites are having similar problems. ReNo? Gimpinthesink? Anyway, I just slapped a filter in on Outlook to kill the mail, doesn't cut down on bandwith so edgenetwork's still getting fuxored, but it saves time on my end.

Every once in a while I'll get a load of spam pulled from my PHL account... But then I decided to just pull the plug and simply blacklist anything from that account.

You win some, you lose some, I suppose.

Oh, the old old Hornetking days? And you still have your address! Hehe I think they deleted mine after abusing the 'site update' system...

I'm not having any problems with mine. I'm guessing, you've put this address out on many forums. I suppose that could be the reason. I dunno...

So wait- how did you abuse the "site update" system?

And yeah, its kinda sad. I think they just sorta forgot about me and stuff. It still works, but I think, in its entire life, I've gotten like 3 e-mails that I actually wanted.

Well when I moved the site they failed to mention it (along with all the other news I sent), so I felt that perhaps my e-mails weren't getting through and hence mass spammage of the 'site update' system was the way fowards. Sadly it only shows one update/site, but it's a good way to get random, unfiltered messages onto the website...

Just a follow up, but it looks like edgenetwork took a dive... Perhaps all the bandwith expenditure caught up with them or maybe they're setting something up to protect the site but whatever, it's not up right now.

I think they're owned by UGO now, so it's more likely that it's just server problems than running out of money

I have the same problem with my hotmail address, and used to have it with my eidosnet address until I decided the only stuff I was getting through it was spam anyway so I might as well just delete it. My @elva-mod and @deadpan-studios addresses don't get spam whatsoever as I keep them for important email stuff only, but my hotmail gets a tonne. I'm afraid I don't bother with my @hlgaming address so I cant tell you if its getting the spam or not.

But I havent been able to check my mail to day cos its down at the min.

I'm literally getting infected mails faster than I can download them on my dial-up. Applying a filter in Outlook to delete all messages with attachments from the server isn't working, so I might have to look for a different program if this keeps up.

Use Mailwasher ... it just checks your mail on the server, and only downloads the headers ... 1 simple filter + check mail every 1 minute and all those mails will be teh gone in no time.

Thats the sorta problem I was getting SC, on a dial-up its hell, 10mb or so of infected files a day is just not acceptable, so I figured it was better to just scrap the email address.

Good thing about using hotmail for a general purpose email address for friends / stupid email forwarders is that the worst amount of spam you can get and therefore need to delete is the small inbox limit, so it never gets too out of hand. The junk mail box picks up on the worst of it anyways, so most of the time I just have one or two to delete.

Hotmail does now actually have a lot of built in filters; where I used to get about 100 spam messages a day it's pretty much gone down to about 5 or so- getting more auto e-mails telling me this website is nearly over its bandwidth limit than spam!
