This is about 5 hours worth of work I have done on a new DOD map I'm doing for the YC-UK dod clan and myself. As the map description states, its set in a U-Boat pen.

The awesome U-Boat model is courtesy of Neil 'Jed' Jedrzejewski. This is his site where you can find this and many other great models. http://www.wunderboy.org

Obviously I haven't finished it yet, and there is little detail and I'm still tweaking the lighting, but I was wondering what everyone thinks of it as a start.

(oh yeah, I don't know if anyone has rcognised it, but the cargo crane on the roof was inspired by the one in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade  )

I like the idea. It seems like an excelent theme. However, U-Boat pens were bunkers on a massive scale. They almost certainly had arched ceilings.

I did a quick google search and found This

It seems like a really excelent source for concept images to work from.

Looks like the UT CTF map November. It looks cool, but not necessarily WWII-themed enough

Oh wow, this looks nothing like Medal Of Honor :p

Did you actually rip the ship model from MoH (Not to be offensive), because it looks almost identical.

How perceptive. Yes the map is modeled on a combination of real photos and the MoH map. The gameplay will probably be something similar to that of the U-boat single player map in MoH.

Yes the similarities between my map and MoH's U-Boat map are uncanny, particularly due to the fact that like me, they actually researched the topic and found out what they looked like  . I think with this theme its pretty hard to come up with something completely new as well as being completely realistic.

Thanks for the link Tracer, I also found that one during my researching. That pen at Cherbourg is the only one I could find evidence of that looked like that. Due to its curved nature it would be rather hard to make, at least when it comes to R's. Here are some links to pics/pages that I used as references:

http://www.usaaf.net/ww2/uboats/images/pages/subpens.htm

http://www.uboatwar.net/Fruboat-today.htm

http://www.uboat.net/flotillas/bases/la_rochelle.htm

I've also got some books here but no scanner.

Obviously I still have a lot of work to do on it. I've only built part of the basic structure with the lighting and a knock up crane to add a bit of detail and give an early impression of the finished product.

I'll have to take a run through in game, but knowing your ww2 resum? with DoD this should be freakin' detailed up the ass

By the way, that MoH map rocks (for anyone who hasn't played it)

Interesting. I'm quite suprised the weren't all arched. I guess that goes to show you should look at more than one resource before drawing broad conclusions.

I've just gotten some new screens up for the map. I have added the sub entrance (essentialy a huge door), and more importantly the cargo loading area at the back of the pen. As the shots show there is a two track rail system running through each sub slip in the pen for the transportation of cargo. This is the are where most of the close quaters fighting will happen, due to the presence of freight carriages and cargo containers/etc. I have yet to put gangways onto the sub to allow players access to plant explosives. Still tweaking but coming along very nicely.
