What is your brewed beverage of choice?

Myself, I used to be a tea drinker (black with 3 teaspoons of sugar + milk) but now I quite prefer coffee.

I rarely drink more than 1 cup a day and I have coffee almost every day, so I basically have 1 cup a day... with just one teaspoon of sugar.

Also, I think level design and coffee are a great combination! ~o)

Both. For me it, depends on the place, season and situation.

Definately tea. Hot or iced, green or black. Hell even some fruit/herb concoctions.

That's pretty much exactly what I prefer.

I don't drink coffee, and don't intend to get into the habit.

Coffee for me too. I drink tea rarely, not because I don't like it, but simply because I have no preference for it, and most places I visit don't have it available.

I don't drink a whole lot of sugar drinks now (and when I do drink tea, it's unsweetened). I've quit drinking sodas entirely, (except for the rare celebration here and there, like once every other month), but coffee serves a utilitarian purpose. I actually don't like coffee that much, but it's the cheapest source of caffeine around. If I'm working late in studio however, I depend on a good 5 hour energy shot. -No crash, and I can keep working throughout the night.

However, early morning classes don't deserve my FULL attention (nor the $3.00 for an energy shot), so I'll normally get a coffee for those classes, since it's so cheap on-campus and the effects ware off soon. Even at work I have to settle with coffee because they have it in the back break room for free. I'll drink 2 or 3 cups a day for my job to keep on top of things (regular 9 hr. day). If tea could keep me awake, I might consider it instead, otherwise, I drink plain-old water to quench my thirst, and for all meals. ~o)

LOL? Funny you should bring up such a thing, as I was an avid Star Trek fan for a while. I tried earl grey once just because that's what Picard always ordered from his doodad replicator. Nothing special in my opinion.

BTW nice graphic ;)

Haha like Riven I'm quite conscious of my caffeine intake too and indeed it's the only reason I drink coffee, although I don't mind the taste I wouldn't buy coffee if it didn't have caffeine. I'd buy hot chocolate instead... although that has sugar in it which I have to avoid for the mean time because it gives me really bad acne thanks to my liver. :uncertain:

I find that I consider what I'm doing for each day and whether it would be a good idea to have caffeine that day or not and if so, I'd have the caffeine at a strategic time. But I don't want to have caffeine too much because I don't want to depend on it nor do I want to build up a tolerance to caffeine's effect.

I would try black tea, like a chai or something, it usually is enough to get me going.

I put neither, not because its bad for the soul, I just havent conditioned my body to caffeine like so many people do (a cup of coffee becomes less effective over time the more you drink it). I only use it for a boost when I need to get a project done, or when finals come up on me. Then its Redbull + Orange Juice for the all nighter drink. =P

That's pretty much my reason. I don't want to become dependent on it, that's why I steer away from caffeine, apart from tea.

I've once stayed up for 2 all-nighters(not recommended to anyone!), drinking green tea to keep me alert.

Again, don't ever do that, ever! Unless you have a chemistry exam coming up that you're feeling hopeless about.... :-o

Yea, having too much really isn't good for ya, and I recognize that, but in the work place and at school, it's free. It's like water during the morning time. All you have to do is walk up, grab a cup and pour. They even have the sugar and cream there for ya if you want it. If you're looking for a fix to get you through the morning, it's hard to avoid free.

On the flip-side, I feel as though I'm painting myself a caffeine addict  -Which I'm nothing of the sort, I don't drink it every day, and often go a week or two without touching a cup. During the summer however, I do admit, it's an everyday thing, but school is much different. Sometimes I can get away with scheduling a not-so-early class, and be better for it without the induced stimulants in the morning.

But in architecture we are quite often pulling all-nighters every day (towards the last 5 weeks of the quarter (a.k.a. Semester) With 2-3 hour naps during the day. I'm sure anyone who's studied architecture can testify. Some resort to coffee, and others, go take a shower, and then there's some like me, that buy up the whole box of energy drinks to last them the whole quarter. It's pretty much an un-listed material fee for getting your projects done. The longest I've pulled without sleeping a wink consecutively was 4 days (3 all-nighters). I literally worked around the clock, stopping only for food and toilet. I had to skip 4 of my classes over the course of those 4 days. It was extremely intense, and I'll never do it again. I got an A in the project though, so I thought it was worth it.

And because we work the long nights up there quite often, we've developed a kind of "Studio Culture" which as part of one of my architecture theory classes, we were asked to somehow document this phenomena. So, we organized ourselves to go shoot video of each student-year working and interview students and teachers.

Ultimately, I was the only one with video editing experience, so I put everything together for an 18 minute documentary about this "studio culture" And it really helps to explain what I'm talking about with the all-nighters and commitment to the study. I recently uploaded it, so you guys can view it on Vimeo.com!

Whoa you guys are crazy! I've only ever done one all nighter in my life (36 hours no sleep) and it was horrible. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to go without sleep for another 12 hours!

Anyway I watched the Studio Culture video Riven. It was quite cool, nice editing! 8-) You guys seem like hard workers and that is defiantly the kind of work place I'd like to be in, maybe less all nighters though. :p

Yep agreed 100%. I've always spaced out my work anyway to make sure I don't have to do things last minute, it's a pretty good habit to have. :p

Has anyone heard of the stories of people playing WoW days straight and dying of dehydration and exhaustion? Better be careful Riven. :teach:

Hehe, I can beleive that. WoW is very addicting sometimes, not to mention really funny after playing Warcraft 3 for a month before hand.

+=+ ON TOPIC +=+

Its funny though, I've been considering getting off of coffee recently, but I don't see any major problems with it at the moment. Sure its addictive, but so are lots of things in life (like mapping :wcc: ).

The thing I don't get about that is ... there's plenty of moments when you're just automatically traveling across the world. It's not something that takes a couple minutes either ... so why couldn't they get water/eat/feedtheirchild then?

True, I don't see how you would want to stick around for that whole length of time either.

Working on a project and being addicted to a video game are two totally different things. No need to worry about me over that :p

However, I have heard stories of drowsy, sleep-deprived students hovering over an Xacto blade at 4 in the morning about to cut their own eye out (e.g. fall on it because they can't hold their own head up)... :-o

...Almost done with it all. 8-)
