You know you can email him directly without worrying if he'll ever see it or not?
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I think Valve are more focused on the singleplayer aspect of the Half-Life series.

Let's not forget about multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead and even Alien Swarm which satisfies to some degree the demand for multiplayer games and also shows that Valve do care about multiplayer I think.

Sure Half-Life 2 Deathmatch is nothing special and it seems to be a bit of an obligatory release from Valve, but it's core Half-Life 2 multiplayer gameplay without anything too fancy and that's what makes it nice I think.

What would you like to see Valve do with hl2dm other than keep the dedicated servers up Jium?

I always thought it would be nice if HL2DM had achievements and stat tracking to sort of add that rpg like element to the game that seems to be popular these days. And some game modes like capture the flag, territories or even survival (lives, last man standing wins) would be nice.

And it would also be nice if there were "official hl2dm games" that have a concrete playlist that perhaps could even include some good custom made maps hand picked by valve. They could even have weekend competitions and such. I think it could add a great deal to the game if a Valve employee(s) was notably active in the HL2DM community organizing such games/competitions/playlists.

Maybe I'm not following ya here, but your complaint comes after they just updated HL2DM to the 09 engine? I'll admit I haven't played HL2DM in a long time, and just got through checking out how my old map still runs in it (being very familiar with all the little bugs it possessed). And the new engine fixed all the old issues! (the doors swinging too far and catching you, or props attached to the move_rope entity not staying constrained. They were broken at some point after I released the map, and now for the first time they're finally fixed!

Now I haven't mapped for HL2DM in an even longer time, so I'm not sure about any of the outstanding issues you may be referencing, but on the face of it, it looks as though the game has been improved, or is there something I'm missing here?

They should turn it into tf2 like they did with CS:S and DOD:S, It'd be the only logical move.

this is a good start

basically there are a lot more glaring bugs than before. The point is that the game is far from dead, yet valv continues to treat it as such, compounding problems with careless actions such as failure to rescind the free game offer, or releasing untested updates.

A fair number of maps are now broken as well.
