Ok I have been tampering with Hammer for a Lil while now still need to learn a few things before i can do what i need to but my main ? would be can I use a Maya model and put it in Hammer or do I need to use a different program. I been looking over and over on youtube but cant seem to find a good video about models any suggestions?

You will have to convert the model.. Dont use MAYA so I am not sure the process, but with Blender they have a plugin that does that for you.

Save the model as an SMD, then use StudioMDL to convert the SMD to MDL and then it can be used in the HL engine.

StudioMDL is included in your SDK files. SourcesSDK/BIN/EP1/BIN/studioMDL.exe

Well never used blender before but it looks interesting may need to learn it. I have found a few videos about Saving the model as an SMD thanks for the info ill let ya know how it turns out.

Yes you hit it right on the head the plug-in allows you to save as an SMD model

Just an interesting point, Valve is using Modo now but I know nothing about Modo.

Not taking credit for this find someone else here on the pit pointed it out to me:

Read up, there are a lot of cool features. At the very least you can make the mdl file and decompile it and hand it over to an actual modeler to touch it up.
