I am calling in a few favors. Any who know me prolly owe me a couple..... Hundred, so please consider my request.
I haven't been able to map for over 4 years now. I'd kinda like to start again but have no real interest in reading tutorials for the next 6 weeks so I am asking those who can, to send me any or all their spare VMF's.
I am not really interested in completed maps, although I'd turn none down. I am more interested in example maps. I tend to catch on faster with examples more than tuts anyway.

You know my trustworthiness so stealing is not a problem. You know I'd rather build my own stuff anyway. However if you send me something WiP and you want it kept a secret, specify it please.
Any whom may not know me yet who have some spare maps lying around send those to please.
Thanx in advance
Orph

If you're talking explicitly source mapping, the majority of stuff didn't change. The only thing new is a better entity relationship system.

And, honestly, your best resource is going to be Valve's official Wiki on the topic. They're not tutorials. It's straight look up what the thing is and use it.

To note, I know you and don't owe you shit :p

We have known each other forfreakin ever. Shit is exactly what we owe each other. :hee:

I know you're right about stuff not changing much but (and don't laugh) it took me an hour to remember how to make sunlight shine down the other day. You'd be surprised what you forget.

and dood, I want everything I can obtain to be offline.. Remember.. This forking 3 gig limit is a pain. I know it doesn't seem like much but I burn 5 to 10 megs every time I look shit up.

Example maps? So like small demo maps that just show case a specific thing? I don't think many people would have many of them.

Some tutorials do come with example maps but I would think you would be better off just taking the time to go through a tutorial as good ones will tell you the how and the why and hopefully tie up all loose ends on a subject.

I'd be happy to send you all of my vmfs if you want, just mind the sometimes messy brushwork.

Send them Aaron.
Right now I am interested in rocks/cliffs. I am fascinated with the cliffs in Lost Coast. I wanna know how they were done, and how the mesh so well with the beach.

I am also very interested in water.

Let me clarify. Send any maps you want... Period. I am not really interested in how many solids you overlapped. :p

I haven't mapped in longer than 4 years, but the source to all my maps is available on my website.

I have to be honest, if your complaint is bandwidth ... wouldn't downloading a bunch of maps that can be 100+ MB be a worse move than looking at a website that is almost entirely text? (I'm informing you that it is)

Just ... wanted to point out the flaw in your plan.

If someone wants to download the source to my maps, I'm happy to spare the extra bandwidth.

I have to agree with Crono.. sorry but I do. I don't owe you anything but a good swift kick to your junk should we ever have the displeasure of meeting in real life.

As for my work, I dare say I am sure it would not measure up to your more than refined taste... so I will spare you the embarrassment of having to view my brushwork.

1st off I'd like to thank those whom sent the maps.
2ndly, I didn't post this thread for anyone to debate the merits of my request. If you don't owe me anything, Shut up. Its pretty simple.
Lastly. I can download the emails on some free connection someplace. There is no fucking flaw in my idea. ;)

All I want is some maps to see how this or that was done. I have no interest in reading a shitload of tuts. I know I will have to read some, but if I can reduce it to a few I'd rather go that route.

Some of you seem to be confusing friendship with association. This thread wasn't put here for you to air out your old hurts. If you have them, you more than likely earned every one of them.

Again, thanx for sending the maps.

Mazemaster already posted here and I was going to say you need look little further than dm_island17, which has a wealth of optimizing / visual tricks in it.

Periodically I have tried to direct people with questions to an active download of the island17 vmf that existed here on Snarkpit; that link seems garbled by the new site code unfortunately. I've always said this file should be mandatory SDK reference material.

How about a map update mazemaster? ( it's missing screens too )

I haven't had the opportunity to look at Nicks map yet but I sure will soon. Thanx Nick. I didn't know it was available.

My only regret was not being there to help you build it. I cannot remember why since you released it long before I left but... It turned out perfectly fine without my interference. :)

1st: I have never considered you a friend.
2nd: This from the guy who said this was a free forum where anyone can say what they want...
3rd: Hurt, dude you give yourself way to much credit thinking you could ever hurt me.. or anyone on here. As if you mattered that much to any of us.

If you can download the stuff from a free file server you could do the same for images and other things.. like duh.

Wow, thanks! A lot of those tricks came from talking to fellow mappers on the forums or IRC back within the first few months of the game's release (especially some guys called Ghoul and GhostShadow (I think??) from the VERC IRC).

I've updated the snarkpit map page to reflect the correct download location and add screenshots.

Orph I believe you did help critique the map back then, but I'm not sure.

Muhnay let it go. Don't start shit just cause you don't like Orph. Nobody wants to see, "Man-girl 8: The Return of the Bunched Panties"

I was mostly joking in my post anyway.

I dunno about portal.. Any cliffs or water in them? Actually anything with displacements I suppose. Anything source. I'll sift thru. Besides, just cause I am learning cliffs today doesn't mean I won't need other stuff later.

I'll send you a few maps I never got around to finish and kind of put aside. You can do with them what you want.
If you can finish them cool or just use some ideas from them your welcome to.

I appreciate it guys. Just to clarify, I don't steal maps. If I did, I'd have released a hundred for HL1 instead of the 9 I have. I have RMFs from almost every great mapper from 99 to 06.

I did finish one for Jeff Meyer though, so you never know. Thanx Sarge.
