I can't relate yet, but I'm sure the feeling is one of pride. That's pretty awesome, major congrats!

When I think about it, that is a long time. Your marriage alone is older than I've been alive! Was it a quicker 30 years than the years before you were married? -Of course it's your prerogative to answer that one :hee:

Time is a strange animal. For the most part I have4 come to believe that time is nearly 100% in your thinking. IE, time flies when you're having fun.

For the most part, I have fun every day now. When I was younger time moved slower and I am thinking it was because I dwelled on more worrisome things.

Also, I am coming more to believe that the older you get, time mov4es faster. I tease the wife all the time that by the time we are 60, we won't even have to get out of bed for the day passing so swiftly.

Before I got married at 19, I spent the majority of that time in an abusive household so time was something that never went quickly, unless I knew in advance I was going get hit soon for something or another.

So yes, the past 30 years went way faster than the first 19.

Time seems slower when you're younger because things change more often. Aging, school, etc. When you get past educational systems and into adult hood and you're no longer changing what you're doing every 3-9 months ... things suddenly blur together.

hmm..I don't like digging up old posts but this one I wanted to comment on.

Time does seem to go by quicker as you get older. I really believe it's your perception of your own mortality as you grow older also makes it seem to fly by. It seems like just a few days ago we were getting married and having our first child of two.
Now I'm three years away from 60 and the old lady ain't far behind. HAHA!!
Life seems to have flown past with no stops along the way but for the fun memories I recall.
This is all because last night I was @ the oldest daughter's house Skyping on her comp with her younger sister in Seattle. I had her twins on each knee and the oldest g-son next to me while talking to my youngest looking @ my newest g-daughter. I thought to myself WOW! has it gone by so fast?
All I can say is I loved every minute so far.

When your young Time Moves slowly because everything is new to you, as you get older the new wears off and its the same old thing over and over.. You also get the pattern of things, and Holidays mark every aspect of the year so you can see whats next and plan for it. Younger folk are excited for each holiday and cant wait for them to arrive slowing down time for them.

Just a couple theories on the subject of time. April 4th 2012 will mark 20 years of marriage for us.. is it really that uncommon for people to stay hitched these days? I hear that all the time but see more and more people staying together, so I wonder.

A lot of people staying together even now is not that uncommon. Still the statistics indicate that divorces are way up compared to a decade ago. Kids just don't have the commitment we had before. Pre-nups and all that crap weren't even a thought back then.

I think a lot of young people go into it expecting their lives to continue on in the same way as before which is absolutely not true. They also think their spouse should change their ways to fit theirs which should be the other way around. I tell younger couples one of the best ways to stay happy is to not try and change your partners ways but change your own. Do things to make them happy and they'll reciprocate in kind. Best thing I ever did! :D

I hate to say it but also a lot of young people are a lot more selfish now days, it's me,me, me. That's not to blame them personally but it's society that's to blame. It's a grab all you can for yourself because no one else gives a crap about you world we live in, and I come first. Some just can't grasp the concept that someone else wants to share those things with them, or they simply don't know how.

Sorry about the rant I just have seen it too many times, I have 9 nieces and nephews and 2 daughters and only 2 of them has stayed together so far with the same person. Luckily that's our kids.

I say your still from a generation that had it's s**t together when it came to marriage and commitment, and congrats on the milestone there.

Its not just young people, although it seems to concentrate more in the young but there is a LOT of ME,ME,ME out there.

The biggest problem is, there is so much "ME" stuff that nobody seems to see it except the not me people. That sounds obvious but really its not. If you point out a me situation, most, if not all the people you say it to will only look at you like you're crazy.

I point out a me situation and the first defense is to point at other me people and say that they're doing it too. Its not uncommon for people to use a "wrong" reason as a defense anymore.

Also, 9 times out of ten, if you're the one pointing out the ME thing, it will become your problem somehow. I dunno how it happens exactly but for some strange reason, there doesn't seem to be a wrong thing until someone points it out.

The best things in life, aren't things.

I don't think people have become more selfish, in general. I think more people have become less obedient and submissive.

Keep in mind that equal rights and equal opportunity are relatively new things.

The most selfish people I know ... are in their 50s.

Sometimes Adam, you really make me worry.
The good news is, unless you can find a woman who always swallows, you'll eventually come to see just how much you made us worry..

[edit]
Let me reiterate. My wife is always slapping me in the back of the head telling me that I cannot shove facts under a young persons nose. They won't see it. AND, being crude just fogs their vision all the more.

Now, although I firmly believe what I posted to be true let me rephrase.

Adam, unless you die prematurely, two things are gonna happen someday. One is, you're gonna see just how full of crap some of the things you believe now are. Second, you will be one of the old people being talked about.

These two things are unavoidable... Unless you die beforehand. I personally hope that you live a long, LONG time. You deserve to experience young people's thinking for years. You truly do. :hee:

Mod response:
Orpheus, this reaction is entirely unwarranted. You can be passionate about responding to other people's thoughts and comments without being insulting.

Let me be clear: You do not have the rights to tell anyone on this site that any of their beliefs are full of crap. You can disagree, but you need to handle that interaction like an adult and with respect to peers, and not in the most offensive way possible.

Personal response:
To be clear, my post had nothing to do with you. I was only adding my thoughts to the conversation in a general sense. And, to be frank, You have no idea who the people are that I'm referencing; you really don't know that much about me to make that kind of judgment call.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

sighs
I'd give both testis to be present when all the things you think you know, come back and bite you on the backside.

and

Yes I realize that this will never happen because when/if it did, you'd never tell anyone.

Offensive or not (and I still don't see anything offensive but oh well), I stand by my post. I have come to learn that any time someone gets upset at something like this is because there is a kernel of truth in it someplace. I may not know your specific issues but you do and someplace you saw truth. I may never know exactly what that truth was, but I have the satisfaction of knowing it exists.

Although I do not believe that age cures all stupid, it does have the advantage of seeing both viewpoints of young and old, considering they have been both.

Like I said. I hope you live a very long time. You deserve to spend decades dealing with young people. You truly do.

The best things in life, aren't things.

Maybe it was the overall tone that you somehow know my life better than I do ... or you telling me that my beliefs on pretty much anything are full of shit?

Couldn't be either of those two things that could pissed me off, now could it?

Sometimes I almost believe that you are unaware of the 100's of times you yourself have been offensive.

Adam, we've been friends forever. Why don't you try to see things in the vein in which they were given?

I am not privy to ALL your belief system, but I am pretty sure, in fact quite confident that someday your beliefs will change. And at that time you yourself will relegate the old beliefs to the "CRAP" pile.

That's all I meant.

Besides, you know damned well I don't care if anyone gets mad. No one here ever cared how furious I was. I thought it was a Snarkpit standard option.

It's riding around in kangaroos while shredding out Back in Black on an electric guitar. And riffing in lyrics about their universal health care.

They also use Kuala as volleyballs in the very special kangaroo-thats-not-a-knife-this-is-a-knife beach games. It's big in Australia. Like Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman.

Since then I've been so busy juggling my technically full time job with my technically full time study and social life! But I've learnt heaps and I get to work with people that have worked at disney and crytek, plus I was on tv when a game show here in Australia did a segment about our game/company :)

30 years ago today....

I was Eleven years old, and Most likely riding my bike, playing with hotwheels, or on my Atari 2600.. I am not sure I may of had my Commodore 64 by then. Either way it would of been a week off from school for the holiday... and I would of been enjoying the time away from school.

I agree Crono.. but how do they get the midgets in the pockets?

On the subject of Marriage, The wife and I dated 3 months, got married, and have been so for 20 years come April. People said we would not last a year, people presumed to know us better than we knew ourselves. I guess we have proved them wrong 20 fold. I will agree with Orph on one point, view points do change with time.

Congrats to all the couples be it 6 months or 60 years. Now here is a hopping cow! :cowjump:

I'm sorry, but you just aren't aware of the kangaroo racing scene. Full sized people are used. There is a baby kangaroo up and coming scene for little people and children, though. But it doesn't get the same amount of funding.

Well. If the kangaroos don't win ... they're shot. And if the pouchies don't win they get their legs broken by their loan sharks.
