I downloaded a couple of Opposing Force maps and played them on LAN with my brother. Came back to rate them and comment, but seems like the comments section links to a completely separate topic. For example, Leperous' map Smallone seems to be linked to Riven's appearance on Podcast 17, and OP4 Tau is also linked to a General Banter discussion. It could be that I'm clicking the wrong thing, but this might be a section of the Pit that needs a brush up.

If you could post some links to a few of the specific issues, I might be able to manually fix them, and point me in where else I should look.

Thanks for pointing it out! :D

No problems :)

I'm not sure if they're broken links or if it's something I'm doing, but I'll post the links anyway.

http://www.snarkpit.net/index.php?s=maps&map=1
http://www.snarkpit.net/index.php?s=maps&map=3

I had a quick look-see and a lot of them seem to be connected to unrelated topics.

http://www.snarkpit.net/index.php?s=maps&map=9
http://www.snarkpit.net/index.php?s=maps&map=10

Coincidentally(or not), all of these broken links seem to be Leperous' maps.

Snarkpit is awesome. I appreciate the work that goes into a site that isn't just running on any software or forum scrip available for download. Some forums available are nice... like vbulletin but not needed in most cases.

One thing I would like to see is an option to add maps for Adrenaline Gamer 2. I have made several maps for this HL2 mod but never uploaded or created a page because there is no selection for it.

We might need to consider scrapping the "Recently Found" thread in favor of a new one. Since it got out of sync it takes way to long to load now.

All in favor?

For me and a friend of mine the site takes extremely long to load as well, not really talking about that topic but sometimes it doesn't matter where you want to go, everything loads slowly. When you re-visit the site a little later (an hour or so) it is fast again as usual.

I have a suggestion. Everyone stop complaining about site bugs for the time being.

There's nothing Riven can do and everyone complaining to him is really not going to do anything besides aggravate him.

The thread is likely slow because of a database issue ... (though, to note, it only takes a couple seconds longer to load for me)

It likely has to do with the way the site gets pages of information. Again, not something Riven can go in and fix easily.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I don't think anyone complained so much as pointed out the delay.

That particular thread was one I started and I don't get gold stars for longevity if it remains open. I only suggested we begin a new one since as you pointed out ,nothing can be done to speed it up at the present time.

I don't think its worth keeping open if the alternative is minutes in waiting.

Besides, Riven asked a required 3 more confirmations. What else was supposed to happen?

Well again, I won't stop anyone from starting another "Recently Found" thread. It's a staple of the Pit I would agree, but it is just another thread after all. I'm not reigning any command over it :p

I intended it as more of a suggestion than a mandate... You're doing what I would do any way; seeing if enough people thought the thread was overloaded, and if there were, you can make one final post redirecting to the new thread, and I could lock it for ya. That way we wouldn't get any confusion.

I never suggested it because it wasn't an issue for me. But if there is a collective voice asking for a change, let it be!

About the issues... I don't mind peeps mentioning it in the bugs thread. It's a good way to record known issues if anything, but in all honestly I can't fix most, if not any of them. I know a little bit of HTML and PHP and SQL databases to get me by and talk with someone who does, but I'm not going to tamper with something I wouldn't know how to resolve if I messed up. Maybe one day I'll sit down and finish reading my HTML, XML & PHP books and practice more so that I can self-sustain the Pit, but that will be a long ways away from now. I'll acknowledge the issues, but don't get your hopes up on having them fixed any time soon. Sorry. :uncertain:

I want to clarify I was referring to the "This thing still isn't fixed" and "You should get on this, Riven" type comments mostly. I guess that might not have been obvious.

Sorry if my "may wanna look into it BUD" comment made such a stir.. was trying to be polite. Seemed the best way to end that paragraph. I look at it from Crono's eyes and I can see the DUH in it now, like a no shit sherlock statement.

Honestly the delay is not too bad sometimes but others it is rather long... I am not sure it is anything with the pit so much as it maybe where it is hosted? Maybe peek times the servers get choked? I don't know.. just an idea.

Riven the wife is in school for programming, want her and her instructors to take a look at the code?

There's nothing one sided about it: he didn't actually say anything. If he had, and it was offensive, I would have said something.

That chip on your shoulder must be getting heavy by now, any plans to get rid of it in the near future perhaps?

You need to grow a thicker skin. The guy didn't even say anything.
So what if he's being coy? So what if his comment is negative?

There is a difference between openly instigating someone with insults or dredging up past arguments; and just showing a (alleged) distaste in something someone says.

I don't know why you don't understand this ... but this is how the community is. It's an open community, people have the freedom to say things as long as they are respectful of other individuals, even if those things are negative. What is NOT allowed is insults, threats, and tantrums.

If you can somehow convince me ellipsis are disrespectful or insulting, I'll listen to this specific matter further.

Now, I'm sorry if you feel like some sort of victim here, but the reality is that is not what's happening. If you want to discuss this more feel free to PM me. But stop lashing out in the boards IMMEDIATELY.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Well as an example, when you said I was trying to instigate something when I told Orph Id love to see him start a a site and then he called me a name insulting me, and you did nothing to step in and tell him he was wrong. So there is a clear bias here. I have a plenty thick skin, would just like some fairness to your admining.

Oh wait this is an open board and we are allowed to say what we want, but not I, I have to PM it or stop voicing my opinion.. yeah I see how it is.

I'm sorry I missed the comment, but I want you to stop talking about this in this thread. Not to silence you like some government conspiracy, but because it's entirely off topic.

I don't know what the dots mean, I'm guessing it's sarcasm and not the nicest of implied messages. Too bad it's a forum, so that means every comment has the same visual weight on the page and will be read. Otherwise I'd imagine it would be a comment easily overlooked.

Having said that, I don't care what Orpheus was trying to say, but in regards to the offer: I'll admit revamping or even fixing some aspects of the site is sort of a full-time investment that I wouldn't be able to devote or help out with right now. I've been on a spring break these past few days. (back home with the family for 4 days), so I've had time to comment and laze around a little bit. I'd like to revamp the site; we all know that. I just wouldn't be able to commit much time to it until I can get settled in once I graduate.

The way I see it, I'd rather spend a week or two fixing a list of bugs, than stopping once or twice a year to fix a couple. It's an all or nothing kind of thing. Either way I can say the bug has been duly noted in my list of things to look into or change. Thanks for the offer G4mer, as I'm sure I'll be contacting ya later about that. ;)

Done.

I am working full time and in school full time so I know what you mean about having no time RIVEN... I am going to be starting the art part of my design degree next semester, I will work on some stuff and ideas for you Riven, it would be great practice, and the offer still stands, if you ever need it.

NIB no worries brother.
