The arbiter over relevance is common sense. Being patriotic because of 9/11 has no relation to the Iraq war. Think about it.
I assure you that I think a great deal, perhaps more than is healthy.

So that's common sense?  Do not rank me with the common man if I must suffer such a crippling disability.

You've been waiting months to play that one haven't you gollum

I saw the funniest thing on sale in Asda (UK's Wal-Mart) today - "Patriotic Pinball". The blurb on the back said "all the great things about the USA on a table!". Wow, the temptation was almost too great

Sorry if that came off as anti-american, as I really aren't, it just struck me as humourous after reading this thread earlier in the day

I think quite a few people might want to avoid playing the offended party     The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

Let's face it, most of the hurt/insulted replies to this thread are gleefully sanctimonious.  They are delighted to have something to be angry about.  There's only so far you can expect people to bend over backwards in deference to your ideals.

For someone as educated as you, that's a pretty stupid assumption. Really, it is. I won't lie to you, I know that there are people here in America (and everywhere) that are like that. But, for you say such a thing... it only shows ignorant opinion that your parents probably taught you. Do you not think that we americans are sincere? Do you think that everything we say is to gain attention? Do you think we don't speak truth? Do you think that what you see on TV is america? Because if you do, you're just as impressionable and stupid as the kids in this thread

Jinx, it means a lot to me that you actually show that you recognize what happened for what it really was. That's really all i was frustrated about! The issue of the event and how the media handled it are two very different things... And you finally clerified to me that you see that. However, you said that it should have brought the world together to prevent this sort of thing from happening again... we knew who was responsible, and we knew where he was located. We could have ended many of the terrorist organizations throughout the world if we really did work together. The UN wasn't too obliged to help us, even if it meant a danger to their own countries.  =/ ANYWAY... it seems that you're a tiger and I'm a dragon, heh. And sorry, it seems that the issue of the flag is a difference of opinion, and not of right and wrong. That flag means a whole lot more to others than you might think. Some people burn it to display their protest, while others die to keep it posted. Alas, the tiger and dragon will never get along - and no matter how much they argue, neither will win.

Ok then, here is the common sense:

If A->B and A->C, then C does not necessairily -> B.

This whole U.S. vs. the world thing is incredibly dumb! can we please not import it to these forums?

Think of september 11th as a cookie which you dropped on the floor. If you remembered every cookie you dropped on the floor and just wouldn't stop wishing you hadn't dropped it, you'd be a pretty grumpy sod, and your life would be less efficient. If you accept that you dropped the cookie and move on then good things will come from it.

5000 deaths=dropped cookie :leper:

a man after my own heart (or lack there of)

it's a good point though, GET OVER IT. I'd much rather we were makeing a big deal about VE day than 9-11

for those of you who don't know VE day = Victory in Europe, May 8th, 1945 when Allied aircraft began dropping food on the defeated germany instead of bombs.

This thread needs to be locked ASAP, I was going to stay out of it but I am just getting sickened by the lack of compassion by some of the Snarkpit members.

I think I have a bit more liscense than most to be cold hearted, being that I am an American.

I guess I should keep my mouth shut though. the fact that I don't understand why this is in any way emotional for anyone besides the families of the victims, has no bearing on what others feel about it.

I'll bow out of this one

Please Please stop these threads next year i now something big happend where alot of people died but you have to let go at one point and not everyone likes to see threads about it.

and now for what I think about it I dont care I didnt care when I heard about it I just thought when will they get the net running normaly again (yes I am a very sad man that has nothing better to do with his time than spend all his time on the net) and get back to normal radio and tv transmitions cos this is pissing me off now.

Those people ment nothing to me they were and are just a name and nothing more if they were part of my family then yes I would have cared alot more than I do but they weren't so agan Please Please stop these threads and posting the yank flag in them I dont go around posting the Union Jack or St George's Cross every where on Rememberence Day (the 11th of November) in stead I ware a poppy with pride and think what all those men did for other country's not just there own.

I totaly agree VE-Day a much better day to make a big deal about as it shows compashion to the defeated enemy instead of attacking (I know its a crap way of putting it but I couldn't think of any better way to say what I feel.

and Doc I know its not what you feel or agree with but thats the way I feel I carnt help it I just have no feeling's for someone I didn't know Like all the people that have died in suicide bombings its sad that these thing's happen but I feel nothing for them or there familys If I knew any of them well that would be a totaly different story but I didn't.

I'm inclined to agree with the Doctor, but I'll give a few passing notes.

Dropping a cookie? Fuck you.

Playing the offended party? Only when I'm offended.

Two years have passed? Death is permenant.

Mind your own business off in Britain or your own contorted perceptions of America. My patriotism is my own.

The only good that can come of this thread is its termination, locking it just wouldn't be good enough.

As I keep protesting, these are spur-of-the-moment phrases.  People must think I have a big book of smart-arse things to say, but really it just flows naturally :heee:

I think it's time for me to bow out of this thread; I weary of the indulgent indignation.

I'm sorry I offended people in this thread, but I think it has been worthwhile.  I've learnt quite a bit from the discussion.
