norton......

in my book pound for pound, its the best.....more features, tools, and pretty damn user friendly.....beeen using it since i started using pc's.....and ive never had a virus out of control....

...............or on my pc either...

.....and, if you uninstall it once a year and then reinstall and register, ya get a free years worth of virus updates.....ive also read that they dont try to keep peeps from NOT paying the yearly fee, as their philosophy is basicly, "if thats what it takes to beat the virus;s, then so be it...."

kind of a refreshing attitude in this capitolistic world, eh?

/just my two cents...

Doc Brass... :dodgy:

I've always used AVG, it got rid of a real bastard of a virus i had a month ago. But keep it updated always, say every 7 days, then it works good. Also it scans out going email, and puts a cool little footer saying so on them. And zonealarm free edition is also quality, and has so far 496 malicious intuders. Or so it says. I think some of these might just be servers pinging me.

That's because people who use Linux are bitter enough with their compiling programs and bitching about what version of X they have and stuck in the 80's with their command prompts, if they had viruses to worry about too it wouldn't be pretty

Psh, I have ZoneAlarm and in a month I've accumulated 500,000 attempted connections, majority of them are pings but occasionally they aren't.

I have a gay virus that shuts down my computer only a few minutes after connecting to the internet. Downloading AVG now since it beats the 60$ price tag of Norton's 2004 NAV.

There's a patch through that, it's called msblast, and it only happens when you connect to a Microsoft Server, or it did when it came out. You can get a specific patch for it through System Update.

Unno. But its a good excuse for another reformat

And I figured out why SATA didnt work last time. In BIOS, the boot device was IDE-0 and theres a option for SATA.

Psh, that's puny. I've got ZoneAlarm and in about 2 months I've already had 155,267 attempted connections and 11520 are high rated. And before I re-formatted it was past a million over a 6 month period. Also you usually can't install XP now without getting worms if you don't pre-install a firewall before you connect to the internet. You can't patch anything fast enough.

Cause I had some gay virus? And I knew long ago there was a thread for free anti-virus software, so I did a search.

And SATA still didnt work. Oh well, here's to reinstalling ME and then XP pro. T'will be a long night boys!

Windows XP pro CD isnt a boot-data CD. The idiot that burned it didnt make it so. So I need a OS installed before I can install XP pro.

Anyways, reformat is complete. But I still get that damn bastard shut down. Why is that?

Its something to do with Remote Procedure Call or something like that.

Here's the exact error:
User posted image

[edit]
Ok, reading on, they say this is because of a blaster worm due to some security update. Yet the only thing I installed was the service pack (off a CD). I connected to the internet, yes. But it wasent even 60 seconds before I got this.

types this really slow

nick, its a simple thing to remedy. you can either

1) disable remote proceedure call, just google search on how.. but i would recommend that you..

2) get the patch, its simpler by far.

these constant posts of yours, that are solvable with 2 minutes of google searching are making you look silly.

the message you posted is a common malady, google will help you, but only if you use it.
