Yes it's allowed, but you've OBVIOUSLY got "plane with no normal" and "coplanar plane" errors. Both these errors can be fixed by either looking here or by searching this website.

""nummarkfaces == <A name=mlf>MAX_LEAF_FACES</A>"
This is because of vertex manipulation, you have an invalid brush somewhere (most likely from rocks)
?Check for errors and fix any illegal solids.
?Export to .MAP format, close the level, and open the new .MAP. Delete any solids that extend across the map and off the editable region. Save as RMF and recompile "

i have this error, but i never used vertex manipulation, but what is the meaning of "illegal solids", i used a .wad file of a custom map, is this the problem? I neither have any solids over the map border.

"Fatal: Entity xxx, Brush xxx, Side x: has a coplanar plane at (xxxx, xxxx, xxxx)"
Due to vertex manipulation- 3 or more vertices (points) lying on the same vertex (line), when the limit is 2.
?Check your map for problems, and fix all instances of 'texture axis perpendicular to face' errors
?Go to the relevant brush/
entity number (CTRL+SHIFT+G) and use the clip tool on it

this is what i really dont get! i used no vertex manipulation, so and i dont get this whole text (i am a newb  ).

"Fatal: Entity xxx, Brush xxx, Side x: plane with no normal"
?Find the relevant brush/entity and delete it

Relevant?

Please help me!

when it says 'check your map for problems', what it means is, in the hammer toolbar, select map>check for problems. fix or delete the errors it highlights.

sometimes this does not find all the errors, so when you compile again, you may still have errors. if you do, the log will show you what brushes are 'relevant'

Entity 0, Brush 10: plane with no normal

this is a line from your log, and it shows one of the errors that should be fixed by the above method.

however, as not all the errors are caught by hammer, another way to find the bad brush would be to use the info from the log. for the above error, you could go to the hammer toolbar again, select maps>go to brush number. enter the numbers from the log and hit ok. the bad brush will then be highlighted. fix or delete as needed.

[edit] Orph, try compiling a smallish map with too many named lights. i'm sure it was the logfile that was killing the compile. i dont remember exactly, but it ran into the high hundreds of thousands of lines of 'too many lights on a face' error, before i halted rad :leper: [/edit]

Yes they are relevant, but fix the other two before trying to tacle the <A name=mlf>MAX_LEAF_FACES</A> one.

And Orph, trust me, there's far worse/longer logs..

both of these are true, i have had megs of text reporting a light styles error.. barring that, this is indeed the longest compile error log i have ever seen..

point taken... but it is the longest non-light styles error log i have ever seen

[EDIT] BTW Mr. Neo.. you seem to be using the default tools.. thats a no-no around here.. go to the dloads page and get the 2.5.3 tools.

this is a record right? and it is going to take a year or two to make this map really working, right? I think a whil just make a new map, because this map wasnt that special, ther was just one bunker on it and a exploding cow  . I think i just recreate the bunker in a other map, and use the .wad files from the real game, and not a .wad file from a custom map i downloaded.

and yes indeed, ther is no light, that is because my light_envoirment (bad english) dont work, only light_spot. But thanks guys!

even if you scrap this map, i feel it is necessary for you to fix the errors.. it will help you to avoid them later..

light_enviroments will only work if you have a sky.. if a light spot works,so will any other entity light, provided you have the necessary requirements.

solve this riddle, and learn how/why you created it.

Ok, ik will scrap the map, make a new one, and solve the problems, i think the that the error log was so big because i just made this map a little fast, i only thinkt about the buildings, not really about the flag entities, i just have to make it more carfully!

By the way, i know how to make a ceiling, but i am working with Day of Defeat, so i dint have tthe good texture for it, do you know where i can get?

My interpretation of all this:
This guy has no clue how to work the vertex manipulator, its okay though because I had problems with it also, try clipping more often, then work on the vertex tool

I didnt used vertex tool, this map was totally clipped, but i think ihave a way to fix it, this huge log is the result of one little error, i think i changed the .fgd file. I first had a .fgd file, and added a new one, thats why i am getting al this entities errors. And yes, i have no clue of vertex-tool, thats way i am not using it!

i assume that all the 'unknown class' errors are from using two fgd's

and if you didn't use the vertex tool, them i'll also assume that you not only clipped, but carved too. most new mappers soon find that carving causes more problems than it's worth, and learn to map without it.

If you are having trouble on your first maps making them work, I suggest just using plain old half-life, with the standard compile tools. Then when you can make maps that look how you want, and will compile properly, move on to other mods like DoD, and start using the latest versions of the compile tools. You don't need to learn everything in your first map.

Like me! i used it on an old test map then a friend of mine showed me how to use vertex manipulation, now i only clip simple things. another friend of mine gets so confused using vertex manipulation.

your maybe right about the carving, but the point is that i am not interesting in that tool, i have heard about the manny errors that can be the result. I just tryed it one time, i diddnt get the tool totally and i maybe saved the map. I will stil make DoD maps first, the first map went wrong but now i am bizzy with a map without any errors, its not fully done yet, but i have a great tower already. The only problem i still have is that i cant use light_enviroments becuase i have no sky texture, is there a can I get the "Sky" somewhere or is there a other way??

The 'Sky' texture is in the halflife.wad in the half life folder... i can't really see a way that you can't use it.

The only thing wrong is when i compile the map, valve will crash, and everything goes very slow, then i look in qrad, and it is sucking my pc speed dramaticly :leper:

[edit]I just create a new map, make a light_envoirment, have a sky and suddenly, ITS COMPLETLY DARK!!!!!!, PLEASE HELP!!!![edit]

When you look in task manager, and it says 'qrad' or whatever is not responding, ignore this. All it means is that you have to wait longer for it to be finished - if the compile has actually crashed (ran out of memory or whatever), it will stop.

If your map is completely dark and this is for the first time, then perhaps you had a leak before that would hve made the map appear bright, and you have now fixed this leak. Make sure your light_enviroment is inside the sky box, and that it's 'pitch' setting is negative. -90 makes the 'sun' directly overhead. If this doesn't work, try putting a red light or something near your info_player_start, and tell us if you then have a red light in your compiled map.

You can fix that error by going to map>check for errors, then fixing the ones it lists by clicking fix

With the lights, I don't think you understood me. If your map is 100% bright, then you either didn't run rad, there was some error during rad, or there is a leak. Look at your compile log and see if it says LEAK anywhere. If your map is 100% dark, this means that you don't have any lights, but is good, because there are no leaks either. This is why I suggested adding a not-very-bright (say brightness 100) light near your player spawn, to check that any kind of light will actually work in your map. You should be able to add a single 'light', without making the map 100% bright, while adding a small amount of illumination to the surrounding area.
