Any particular reason why this is all on the 'D' drive?

Hammer and compiling tools do not like having things on different
partitions bud. I'm not sure if this is the problem, you'll have to
wait for someone brainy to find out for sure. If it's not too much
hassle, try put everything on the one partition. Might as well mark
this as a possible solution.

Did you manually check the directory where the .bsp is supposed to go?
The search function in XP couldn't find a needle in a needle factory.

I've heard rumors of this... but everything is installed on one drive, I believe.
hammer : D:\Hammer Editor
steam : D:\Steam
My root directory, is still C: ( c:/windows, for example ). Should this have an effect, do you think ? I've had a good old prod at the steam directorys, cant find the bsp manually.

When you compile your map, if your using HLCC (not sure about other compilers) HLCC sends the .BSP to 2 locations. It will send it to the location you specify, and to the location where the .MAP / .RMF files are.

I am not using HLCC. Bulkware. Ugh.
dave; may I call you dave ? well. the rmf was on my h: drive, I thought that could have an effect - so I copied it to d:/xc_bank.rmf, with no change.

Try using HLCC maybe. Garanteed you'll find the .BSP then. By the way, have you succesfully compiled a map before and found the .BSP?

When your map is compiled, it creates a bunch of small files. .p0 .p1 .p2 .p3 etc. It also creates a .bsp (which is usefull to us) and a .log file. a .err file sometimes too (dont know what thats for) and a .ppt for the pointfile.

HLCC solved my problems. It must manually copy the bsp, and not rely on the compile tools. Thanks for all the help

I can nuke a whole load of files. For example, the source code to my quake 3 mod, I could just format the quake 3 drive. Also gives more of a structure to most commonly used 'folders'.

I used to use a single partition until a couple months ago. Then, since I'd reinstalled WinXP 3 times in a week, I decided to put it on a separate partition, since restoring files is a pain in the ass
C: - 2gb, Windows
D: - 28gb, Most other stuff
E: - 10gb, Half-Life.
Yes, I have a 10gb HL partition. HL (including mods of course) is the only game I've played, or edited, in months.

for some reason when compiling through hammer for steam, the rmf must be opened (or initially saved) to your email directory under steam (along with all the GCF files).
But using a batch file compiler will work too

I'd only use partitions for seperate OSes. Other than that keep them in folders, then it makes them dynamic sized partitions

I get exactly the same problem when writing directly to the steam folder, and my guess is that HLBSP just doesn't like the @ symbol in the folder name. Either that, or Steam's being a bitch as usual.

Windows hiding the system partitions is not bulls**t, just because you don't see specific partitions like 'swap' and 'boot' like with Linux partitions doesn't mean they're not there. However, they're not technically partitions either.
It doesn't matter; I just wish they'd learn to count to '1024' and not just '1000'
And, no it is not from the '@' symbol in your email address. The problem is that you need the RMF in your 'SteamApps' directory when compiling through hammer. As in it has to be opened from that location. Sometimes you have to manually transfer it to a .map format as well.
I know it sounds ridiculous, but after moving the map, it because consistent with compiling.

um ... how can you adopt a system that's meant for physical measurement with non-physical space??
In any case, metric is a better system for measurement. I just think it is because its units are easier to work with in math and science. Not to mention converting between different measurments of metric is incredibly simple. (it would be for imperial as well, if all of it were set to a standard measurment system, like the MKS system).
