I have a light texture that I got out of a texture pack and I want it to emit light. I know this has to do with the lights.rad file but I need someone to tell me how to get it to emit light. It is a blue texture so how do I make it give off a blueish light? Thanks.

Open up your lights.rad file and take a look at the entries in there..
Make a copy of one, but you'll notice 3 values along the lines of "255 255 255" - or similar. These are the RGB values.
Example:
+0~GENERIC65 255 255 255 750
Texture Name <span style="color: blue;">RGB Value Brightness </span>
<span style="color: blue;">You can
get an RGB value from PSP, Photoshop, GIMP - most image editing
programs will have a 3 number display on their colour palette screen.
Find a blue that you like, and put it in!</span>

                        2 things,
1)this is in the database someplace. you didn't search
2) there is a program someplace, i saw it once.. it tells you the numbers you need for colors.. i have an HTML number one, but i am not sure the colors will be the same for editing light..
anyways.. maybe someone has this program handy.

Open paint, double click on a colour, then click 'define custom colours'. You want the right hand column of numbers, in that order, for the colour you select.

Orph - thats a hexadecimal colour code, in this format:
#FFFFFF
This definately needs RGB values

i could have swore that the color codes were similar..
anywho's i saw a program, that converts colors into the 3 digit variety that hammer uses..
forget i mentioned the html ones.

The texture wont emit light in Hammer  The .rmf/.map has to be compiled so RAD can interpret the values in the .rad file.
You can't have dynamic lighting in Hammer i'm afraid

I read a tut some where that told me how to take a texture and put it in the lights.rad file. It said that that texture would now emit light in my map when I compiled it. I actually did it and it worked. But I can't find the tut now and I really like this light texture. Any suggestions other than using entitys?

Do you have lights.rad in the right location? It should be in the same folder as your compile tools.

IMO it's easier to have a seperate file for each map: mapname.rad
Just place it in the same folder as the mpaname.map you are compiling from. (your RMF directory if you use hammer for the compile)

far be it for me to steal anyones thunder, but.. to reward answers with blue, defeats the system if the answer was in fact searchable here at the pit
we truly need to encourage new questions to be searched for first..

Orph, it was only partially answered I believe... and he did end
restating the question for clarity.. AFAIK there isnt a mention of the
RGB values/creating custom light colours with .rad files on the site.
But I see your point  There's no foolproof way to get people to read
and understand the guide to using the forum though.. people have
natural blocks on the internet so they can achieve their goal as
quickly as possible
Sadly
