So I guess these Newcastle cores are better in some way compared to the older ones.

They aren't really newer... the clawhammer and newcastle are out at the same time. I haven't been taking much interest in all of this so you'll have to do some searching yourself. The forums and websites in my first post in this thread are probably a good place to start to find out more about Newcastle (there will probably be benchmarks comparing newcastle and clawhammer, etc).

I'm more worried about idle noise than reading/writing noise. Newer seagates and WDs all have fluid bearings like the Maxtors. Really I am trying to make a PC almost totally inaudible, the PSU and CPU are done, I just need the quietest possible hard drive.
I cant tell you how it is in idle. My ears are drowned out my all my fans. 9 in total.

80mm front intake fan (s**tty sleave bearing fan I got for free, loud)
80mm hard drive intake fan (sleave bearing fan that came with the case, pretty silent)
80mm side panel intake fan (sleave bearing fan my friend gave me, fair bit loud)
80mm back exhaust fan (upper) (Thermaltake 80mm double ball bearing, too noisy for my tastes though)
80mm back exhaust fan (lower) (sleave bearing fan that came with the case)

CPU fan, stock heatsink and fan for AMD Athlon XP 2500 (dont know how loud it is)
stock northbridge fan for Abit NF7-S mobo (yes, its loud)
PSU 80mm exhaust fan (loud)
ATI Radeon 9800pro stock heatsink and fan (dont know)

Im switching all my case fans to Vantec stealth case fans. I've tested them and while they push less air than the Thermaltake fans, they are more silent. Im also thinking of replacing the northbridge fan with just a simple heatsink, and eventually buying a new PSU. But until I buy a new one, I might put in the Thermaltake fan in it, as its the quietest fan I have at the moment.

x800xt arrived today. Sadly my compuer doesn't arrive until monday. God damn. Awesomet thing though is, the xt has to connect directly to the PSU. HOW COOL!!! lol awesome
You made the right choice on the video card, now how about the processor?.... If its not at least 3.2 GHz Intel or 2.4 GHZ AMD, then Ill spell B*O*T*T*L*E*N*E*C*K, it happened to me and many others, just read the forums at steam, good luck...

And I'll spell P-R-E-T-E-N-T-I-O-U-S.

The bottleneck of the entire architecture is not the CPU.
Also, you obviously have no IDEA how those different ... companies make their chips. You didn't even specify an architecture of CPU.

Man, I mean, I thought I was doing alright, running all my games at fairly high resolutions and having fast computation time. But, maybe I don't know anything, taking that the processor is barely running at 2Ghz with a 128Kb L1 and 512Kb L2 Cache. Or that my video card is 2 generations old.

But, hey, what could I possibly know on the subject?

Sempron looks like an XP replacer.
Since, the market is pushing in Athlon 64, tha Athlon XP is going bye bye.

At least, that's how benchmarks and prices show it.

Except the highest-priced one, the Semperon is a competitor for the Celeron. Overall the Celeron seems to be a better choice (better if you must but one of the two). Once again, if you want to know how good something is, go read it's review at one of the website in my first post.

i am about to leave out, but i heard a rumor that they will finally increase the old 128 k cache in those celerons.. finally making them worth buying..

/wanders off.

I think the reason why Celerons are "supposedly" slower is because they have a few less registers then something like the P4, but I'm not sure.

As for cache. It'd be really nice, even though this would be insanly expensive, if they A: combined the CPU and Chipset, B: used D RAM exclusivly, C: conjoined the RAM at the CPU so it would take 1 cycle or so for access. Now, the rest of the bus for other parts would just be out the other side (in a physical sense). But oh man, that architecture would cost so much.

Sorry, Rambling again.
