Is the file present in your Valve Hammer Editor textures list ?
If - for any odd reason - it is there, delete it.

You wont have to restart you map.
Post your compile log for more help.
You have to have that wad file loaded in hammer, since the only reason you would get a "cannot find wad" error is that the BSP asked for that wad file.
So, that's about all I can do without that log.

we just had this topic two days ago.. is this our future? a s**tload of wadfile errors due to steam?
i fear our task is going to compound due to steam and all that.
makes me glad i backed up everything to an alternate folder.. yay large hard drives
i have a question of my own though.. i always wadinclude, i never get "can't locate Blah.wad" errors... shouldn't we promote this for steam as well?? i mean, why put a wad into any folder when you can wadinclude? its usually a much smaller file when totaled anyways..
no complaints to the new guy here, its just an observation is all.

I do wadinclude on final compile compiles but for just checking something I don't. Do people even bother doing a forum search? This same question was answered twice just a few threads ago.

to wadinclude, in no way harms a compile, be it fast, complete or final.. it takes but seconds.. i recommend doing it, every time.

Export your level to a .MAP (in Hammer), and open this new file up with a text editor (e.g. Notepad). At the top there should be a list of WADs that your map will be compiled with; if this one is listed delete it, open up the .MAP in Hammer and recompile (keep your .RMF though, in case there are problems loading up the map correctly).
If this fixes the problem, great! If not, then there is a problem with your compilers and paths to Steam, in which case you need to make sure you're not compiling with the original tools (qcsg, qbsp, vis, qrad), and use WADs in Hammer that aren't in your Steam directory (copy them to another folder- e.g. c:\temp - but obviously make sure that the originals are still there in the half-life directory somewhere).
On another note, my Steam directories doesn't have an @ symbol in it- why do some people have one? Is it from 'old' versions of Steam? Is it be possible to rename the direcory, removing the @ symbol, and still have Steam work?

No. It's because they changed the format. Now they ask for an account name, before they just used your email address as your account name.
[NOTE: They don't allow you to change your account name]

That's what both Force and I said. Spartan was going in that direction.
Give credit to Force, because he blunty said "remove wads from hammer"

Or you could just solve all your wad problems altogether by using the -wadinclude function.
