Maybe a dumb question, but here goes.

I followed the tut for setting up Hammer for HL2 but I noticed there are a lot less textures available for HL2 when I browse in the editor. Is there something I need to do, or have overlooked in order to be able to use the CS Source textures along with the HL2 textures when making a HL2 map? And whats with the pink and black checkerboard textures that show up when I browse? Does everyone have that?

Thanks

The problem is that Hammer uses that Gameinfo text file to load certain textures out of the GCF files.

I think you can use other textures and such ...

[EDIT]
Nevermind. I think it'd be best to wait for the Full SDK. So there's more support for stuff like this. I'm not sure how they're going to pan this out really. I suppose you can load VTF files or something.

I have much the same problem RacerX, and I think everyone does without
realising it to be honest. People are saying they have set hammer up
for HL2 and get its resources and models, but even after doing exactly
the same as guides state, I just get less things to use than I do for
CS:S. I'm just giving up on it and waiting on the full SDK - its due
next week and we are bound to figure out more once its out.

I really don't get what's going here, as I have followed my own guide to the letter and I get all the HL2 textures and models! Here's my gameinfo.txt:

"GameInfo"
{
FileSystem
{
Steam
{
ToolsAppId 211
SteamAppId 220

SearchPaths
{
Game |STEAM|.\hl2
Executable_Path |STEAM|.\bin
}
}

NonSteam
{
SearchPaths
{
Game .
Game ..\hl2
Executable_Path ..\bin
}
}

}
}

I have exactly the same GameInfo.txt, except for some extra comments, but I didn't get any extra HL2 content loaded in Hammer.

So, I've extracted most of the materials from the source materials.gcf
to my half-life 2\hl2\materials folder and voila, there they are, ready
for use. Though it would indeed be handy if I could just keep them in
the .gcf's only, for sake of space...

Do you run Hammer through the Steam menu, or by a direct shortcut on your desktop? I do the latter, which is the only other thing I can think of which might influence things :confused:

Leperous: have you extracted HL2 files with GCFScape and is that why you have the HL2 content?

I have used GCFScape but no, I haven't extracted all the files...
