This is probably simple, but does anyone know how to create an intense flame like on the end of a welding torch? Thanks in advance. BTW, I could find nothing on the boards on this. I had made one for HL1 back in 1999, but I can't remember what I did.

For hl1 i would of used a sprite, but for hl2 you will proberly have to make your own image and importe it.

I would agree, though I can't see any decent torch flame sprites in HL2 :/

I wonder why that is the case. There are plenty of nice flames in Ravenholm and other areas in the SP levels. Why isn't that available as sprites is beyond me.

Well, when I made my flametrower, I wanted to make that blue fire at the start of the flame, and it turned out to look like the flame on a welding torch. (mine was just bigger) I used a very short laser/beam, and faded the end. Made it blue, simple!

Hope thats the kind of flame you are looking for

Hmm, that sounds interesting Alex. I'll give that a try. But yeah, HL1 had an easy way to make that kind of flame, just can't remember what it was called atm. Thanks all. oh, btw, is there a clear cut way to ignite an env_steam with the heat wave flag checked? Would be a nice effect. The flame i'm using is for a broken gas pump. I have the gas flowing but for the life of me can't find a way to ignite it. Been looking around, too. I posted a thread on this issue a while back but nothing much came of it. Thanks again.

Well, I tried it out and here's the settings I used.

I chose the env_laser entity.

Brightness:200

Beam width: 20 (also tried 10, no difference)

Noise: 50

Sprite name: blueflare1 (also tried default)

End sprite name: Blueflare1

End sprite: Blueflare1

Dissolve type: Energy (tried Normal also) Same result

Render FX: Normal (also tried spotlight, no difference)

Anyways, the beam is very flickery and looks nothing like a powerful flame. If anyone has any good settings or ideas, i'm open to suggestion. Thanks.

Well here's what settings I used om my flame:

I had a env_beam (But i think env_laser would work too)

Brightness: 100

beam color: 1 5 158 (rgb)

Width: 2.5

noise: 1

sprite: sprites/laserbeam.spr

and i checked the 'shade end' flag.

To me its looks like a welding torch flame, intense and powerful. Hope you'll find something that suits your needs!
