I have just recently recovered from the flu. I work with sick
kids all day, so it's no surprise when I came down with the flu.
I did, however, get the flu shot, but this time it didn't seem to have
helped me much.

I had the whole works: fever, chills, phlegmy cough, complete loss of
olfaction (anosia). I probably felt worse than a poisonous zombie
with four headcrabs on his head.

But I am finally better. There is no description for the joy when I recovered my normal bodily function again.

Maybe so but there are still millions of bugs out there to catch - the probability of you getting a bug is still very high, unless your a health madness man! My mum is (not man ,women) and she never gets any colds or viruses!

I'm good so far but i'm like my mum in being able to fight bugs off before they manifest as anything more than a tickly throat etc. When they do get me though, it feels like the world is going to end!

I used to work in a doctor's practice too and only got ill once over a period of a year and a half. I've not had the flu vaccination as people tell me that once you've been given it, you get the flu...some ballsed up scientific way of fighting it off I suppose

Yes... they inject the flu into you so that you become imune. Makes sense sorta.

Well, usually it forces your body to generate antibodies which, theoretically, protect you.

As a physician, I feel I have the authority to refute this statement
completely. It's a misconception I have to clear up on a daily
basis.

The flu vaccines are made from viral components. It does not contain live viruses. Consequently it's impossible to get the flu from the vaccine alone.

However, it can and does trigger an immune response from your body, and
the resulting IL-1 and TNF (interleukin 1, tumor necrosis factor)
released into your bloodstream by your own body can induce a slight
fever. What happens most frequently is that when you wait in the
doctor's office to get the flu shot, you'll actually end up catching
the flu from other sick people in the waiting room. So in about
two days after the doctor's visit, you'll end up with the infection.

It takes approximately two weeks for the immune response to be adequate
after the vaccine, so if anyone catches the flu on the same day as the
administration of the vaccine, he/she would not be protected.

Go get the flu shot. It's worth the trouble. I am still hacking up green loogies this morning.

I'm pretty much like you, then. I occasionally get sore throats, but they usually aren't too bad. But, if I ever get sick, I get sick. Usually not in just the vomiting sense or anything, but in the being physically unable to get up from bed due to bouts of nausea and waves of pain. It's a blast.

I eat lemons. A long time ago, a guy called Edgar Cyace said citric acid kills the germs or something (I can't remember exactly). This may explain why my dishwashing liquid is 40% orange juice (interestingly, there is orange drink in my fridge that's 25% orange juice), and also way I don't get sick.

There is no scientific evidence that vitamin C or citric acid kills the germs in your body. Eating fruits, however, is good for you anyways. So don't stop, but that's not the reason why you don't get sick.
