Evening all.

As you may have heard, the mod leader of HL2 CTF
(http://www.hl2ctf.com) challenged VALVe to a game of CTF and they
accepted. Well... the first round is over (10 minute game) and here's
the final scoreboard:

http://img236.exs.cx/img236/1699/ctfprisonriot00005uw.jpg

Was a very fast, very intense match. The VALVe guys had a very strong
defense which was all but impenetrable. They quickly took the upper
hand with an early cap. We almost equalised but the carrier was shot
down on the last corner before the flag room. The match was a stalemate
for several more minutes with both sides taking the flag several times
but neither keeping it long enough for a cap (I have to note here that
I crowbared one of em when they tried to nick the flag  EDIT:: It was Robin Walker I crowbared). In the last
few minutes however VALVe managed to pull a sneaky and stole the flag
out from under our noses to make the score 2-0.

There's still 3 more games to go with teams composed of members of the
community. Any slots left open will be offered to people in #hl2ctf on
gamesurge.net though.

I do have a demo of the match if anyone's interested, but I don't have the webspace to host it

Its good to see that valve actually play the games they create (well sort of create).
Sounds like they aren't too bad either. I bet you had fun and
thats the best thing of all.

I could host it. No prob.

Also, the final score was 1-1-1 !!! Valve guys won the first 2-0...then lost the second 3-2...then tied the 3rd 0-0. Sounds like it was a pretty good match up!

I think that's when you scream "h4x!!!11" and start raging the server.

Oh wait, it's TFC, not CS

That is some seriously funny stuff. Imagine if someone started yelling H4XX0R!!111 against valve. That would crack me up :rolling:

Maybe we should challenge the guys at valve to a match on the snarkpit
server sometime..... You know on the top rated maps (or whatever when
all the details are hammered out).

Thats a good idea Omega, it would be a great way to get publicity for
some of the exceptional maps made by members of the site. It might also
make it a place Valve will go looking when they are looking to hire
some new people, if it isn't already.

How about the top rated maps designed for the Valve HL2DM competition?
Could also be possible to get some professional feedback aswell, and a
sense of accomplishment for those mappers who Valve are to play on.

Oooooh oooooh! Is anyone actually making an HL1DM mod for HL2? We should pull our multi-talented resources to build it, then challenge Valve. It can't take that long- you just get the old stuff and up the polys and s**t. I'm sure I could rally some modellers together, most of the animations are already there for the game. We called call it "SP Original", and the first map released would be Snark pit!

Not starting a flame war or anything, but HL2 ain't really that great in my opinion- I miss long jumping with shotguns and all the old weapons like gauss and egon.

Was kinda surprised at limited number of weapons in HL2 , besides the grav gun it was all pretty mundane stuff imo but anyways...

I think its really decent that Valve has done this. Have they played matches like this before for other mods?

I would love to see that happen.

And thats gonna be hard since we are all in separate countries high
ping time, me personally I can fare well against anyone, and Im sure I
could hold my own against the guys at valve  . But I really like the
idea, just the thought of playing against the cretors of the game is an
honor enough. Let me know if anything is going on, id like to beat
valve at dm_departure or dm_pinnacles at their own game.
