Some of you may have heard of this, some of you may have not. For those of you who HAVE heard of this, dont bother reading this post.

Basically, there is a Program called "BSP Optmizer" and what It does is, it looks in your map, and removes all face's and objects that arnt needed, therby lowering File size (and maybe r_speeds).

To use, simply drag your .bsp into the .exe icon

Enjoy.

I'm afraid you're misinformed; this program simply removes unneeded planes from your .bsp file, and will not remove faces or objects or lower r_speeds in any way. Unneeded faces and objects are already culled/removed in the compile process. I suppose it will decrease the file size a bit, but the difference is fairly trivial.

Anyway, one should use this only if they are approaching/at the planes limit for their .bsp, so they can use a customized version of CSG/BSP with no plane limits, then use this program to reduce it down to normal plane amounts again.

Thats what it was. I knew it either removed Planes or Faces (and I couldnt remember planes in the first place)

W/E, still useful.

It seems to cut about 0.1 mb from most of my maps, 0.3mb from Battleschool (which has lots of jery-rigged viswork). Not a huge difference, but considering it takes all of 2 seconds to do I may use it on my last couple releases. I'm doing a DMC version of my Revenant map and they are still complaining about filesizes even though the dmc version is less than 1mb zipped now

the optimizer comes with some modified versions of zoners. ZHLT 1.7p12 is the most recent build.

the tools allow the compile prossess to procede, even if you have used more than the normal 32000 odd planes. this would normally halt the compile.

however, when you do use more than the normally allowed amount of planes (32767), you will find that you still have a dodgy bsp. if you play the level you will find that all sorts of faces are missing.

that's where the optimizer comes in. drag and drop the dodgy bsp into the optimizer, and presto, all the missing faces are back.
