All of those are faily simple to make in a modelling package, and you
could probably learn how to do it and make them fairly quick yourself
if you give it a shot.

http://www.snarkpit.net/editing.php?page=tutorials&game=HL2&id=169

I'd probably help you out if I wasn't utterly swamped with uni work.

I'm afraid Fishy has a point with this. I found it difficult finding
even one modeller willing to work on a mod, and I was searching for two
years. It became such a problem the mod had to be abandoned. Small
projects such as single maps are unlikely to have additional modellers
for them unless the concept and basics of the map are exceptional, so
some screenies of the work so far might help. What's more, although
there are a few modellers at the Pit, this is mainly a mapping site, so
you might want to try somewhere else. Sorry.

Fishy you crack me up..

Why is there not any modeling tools included in the Source SDK package? I would be willing to try making my own models if I knew how, and the tools were included in the SDK.

Moneyshot, while there isn't the actual program, there is a link to XSI. It's somewhere in Source SDK, one of the links.

XSI is free, for HL2/Source editing usage purposes at the least.

I thought it was fairly difficult to learn, though. In my opinion, 3DS Max is much easier to work with, from my standpoint as someone completely new to modelling. With an hour or two of practice, I've been able to create a few static props with it - The trick is finding compiled plugins for import/export to SMD as VALVe has only provided us with sources for the MAX exporters.

More light models for all to use = win, since we've only got about 4 to play with currently

I only ever worked with XSI as a 3d modeling program. However, it is my philosophy that most programs like that all do the same things, they're just set up differently. There isn't one that is suddenly going to make you brilliant. Just pick one, and learn it inside and out. Since XSI is free, that's the one I'm using.

I found the program rather threatening at first but then I got the 12 part gun modeling tutorial from HL2Files. I would give a direct link, but I'm too lazy to look for it. I'm also learning from my brother who is fairly good at modeling and art in general. If I ever make some decent models, I'll put them up for dl.

go to http://www.softimage.com/products/Mod/v4/default.asp?pg=http://www.softimage.com/products/Mod/v42/downloads/ and download the Softimage|XSI mod tool, and the mod tool add-on for valve source. i think you also need to setup an account with them(free) before any of it will work.

soon, i am curious to see it for real.. right now, my gaming PC is tired up doing some taboo things :heee:

[edit] /me notices fish's low snarkmark totals.. /me suggests that well made models should count at least as high as tuts and maps in importance for the site.

Some images in this post have been automatically down-sized, click on them to view the full sized versions:

i messed around a bit and came up with another very similar model. i used the same texture, but i've also added coloured lights skins. six colours, both lit and unlit.

i'll zip the models up together as they use the same main texture, but that can wait till tomorrow.

Your models look really good.

those are not real thumb nails. you should avoid displaying such images, as they are loading as full files.. that page took ages to load.

allow people to pick which images they desire.

also, thumbs of the 200x200, or 150x150 are most handy.

your screens were nicely optimized, my respect grows.

I strongly suggest everyone get this program... and xat.

http://www.cerious.com/

http://www.xat.com

The first one will allow you to resize your images to what ever you like and save them as a bunch of different file types. Even has a compress JPG in it.

The Second one is one that Orph has talk about many times for making thumb nails much smaller in filesize.

first off, if you know HTML code, you can make much better thumbs, real ones. it is a bit harder to do, but it can be done. i can show you if you like.

secondly, there are hosting sites such as this one. they will give you 3 different lines of code. one of them will serve you as an example of proper coding to make real thumbs. you will just need to experiment to see which corresponds to your website.

lastly, a thumbnail is a miniature representation of the larger image, it is usually about 3 or 4 k. your code actually loads the original 80k images onto one page, so you are actually loading many hundreds of k all at once and defeating your purpose for the thumbnails.

My bandwidth is very large thank you, it always tells me when someone has loaded images erroneously. i knew right off that your page was coded incorrectly.
if you need help, i will be happy to assist you in tweaking the page.
