there is one better than IE?
netscape, looks ok, but actually loads so slow i get tired of waiting on it..
opera was ok, but if you forget to refresh, you may not see something new, (unless they have fixed that problem)
like i said "there is one better than IE?"

Don't bother with netscape, no one uses it and besides it has problems with it that means it can't display web pages properly. IE's good except when it has a paddy, hich is at least once a week

I like Opera because it actually seems to be faster... a more intelligent cache, perhaps?
Hmm... the Javascript Snarkpit thingie doesn't work with Opera... All the buttons work, but not the message part... :/
/me runs off to troubleshoot

Okay... here what support section of the helpfile says about it?
1. A bug in Opera or a feature which hasn't been implemented yet.
2. The site uses proprietary JavaScript extensions, and is written for specific browsers (usually Internet Explorer or Netscape 4).
Are any proprietary JavaScript extensions being used? Because I recall that there were problems with Netscape or something earlier...

You are indeed lucky, why do you think Microsoft is the bane of jokes across the internet? The thing that gripes me is, because people are too stupid or apathetic to even try Mac/Linux, windows keeps its stranglehold on the market.
And when you've used the others, youll know, theyre better. People need to stand up and be counted, and say at last that theyre tired of Microsofts substandard products.

arkansas is the butt of many similar jokes, but very few are based on facts, at least no more facts than any other state.
i will grant you my experience is limited, but it seems to me that unless you personally can make a better product, you are only blowing smoke up our collective asses.
microsoft may be a load of crap, but its leagues above the skill level snarkpit has at its command.
i respect most everyone here, but i doubt any of you can make an operating system thats superior.
i do prefer the windows 2000 pro over all others i have tried, maybe its because its based on another style i dunno, but it seems more stable.
whenever anyone moans about MS i turn a deaf ear to them, they would prolly cry about anything beyond their ability to alter anyways..

My experience with Microsoft has been a lot like Oprh's. I have had no problems with any of Microsofts products except Windows 95. It is also my experience that oftentimes Microsoft products are superior to many other products of the same nature...
Whatever. I think people need to let go of their old bias's.
BTW, Macintosh isn't even worth trying. You can't have any fun with a macintosh... :/

Make a better OS? Thats beside my point entirely... I cant even be bothered to explain... it's obviously just going to fall on (selectively) deaf ears
I can list a thousand reasons (ok, exaggeration) why Windows is rubbish... but I don't see the point. People are too afraid to try new things and experiment with change

Well, right now, IE is better than Opera, because Opera apparantly can't do Javascript too well.
Anyway, I have tried Macintosh... I have been trying to try Linux, but I then decided that I didn't want clutter up my computer any further... :/
I actually don't agree with Orph on the whole "make a better os" deal. My point is that the majority of Microsofts products have been excellent, with the possible of exception of Windows 95, and Windows 1.0 - 2.0.

I think excellent is a little strong for even it's most diehard fans to use
An excellent product wouldnt need as many updates, bug fixes as Windows (any of them) does, and wouldn't be much maligned and mocked, particuarly the BSOD affair.
Technology is supposed to be advanced and reliable, not shaky, bug ridden and overpriced. I certainly expect a better product for how much they charge on the latest Windows release..

I have 5 computers, 2 of them run Windows, and 2 run Linux ( differant versions.. 1 Mandrake 1 Lycoris ) and the last is a mulitple boot machine, its what I did all my testing on from MTI ( tech school ).
I love LYCORIS, too me the best linux version out there.. because its easy to use, has the power and stability of Linux, and the easy of use as windows. Great for first time linux users. Mandrake is great too, once you start to undrestand Linux.. Red Hat to me is just garbage.. but that maybe cause I am not at the level needed to use it yet. not to mention SUSE, or any of the many forms of LINUX/UNIX out there. The problem with Linux is there is not a single version.. too many choices can confuse a young computer buying market.
Windows, has its faults, but they do have a product that works, ( most of the time ) and is the main stay of the market. Everyone is compatible with windows, so I have to give them a KUDOS fot that.
As for what Browser I use.. I have 4 installed.. Seem to use IE the most, with Opera a close second. Netscape used to be the main one.. but they have gotten worse over the years.. but thier last effort was a move forward.. Neo-Geo is IE but with a skinable interface and some extras built in features not in IE.. and is not bad..
The Kids computers uses a interface called Amiweb.. very cool, so if your a parent, and have small kids, its a good choice.
There ya have it from my perspective.

I use IE cos its already installed and i carn't be arsed to get another one altho I have tryed Netscape and I thourght it was alright but it doesn't allow you to view every aspect of the site.
I think I tryed opera (if it wasn't opera then it was one of the others that PCFormat put on there cd's) along time ago and imediatly took it off cos I hated it.
and as for the OS thing I have tryed MAC's but I realy don't like there interface and one button mice.
I have been trying for a long time to try out Linux but I havent got my own PC and no one will let me install it.
I preffer Windows 98 to any of the others just because all my games and programs work with that OS but if all of them worked with Win2k pro then I would definatly pick that one.

my overriding point is that, you dont really have to take microsofts crap, but people do.. when youve lived on the other side you see why i spout forth lyrical about my hatred of M$.
also, i see your point about HL, BUT, those updates were usually fixes coupled with add-ons, good adons at that - improvements and additions should be what downloading patches is about. not fixing code which should have been right in the first place!

my job is 100% dependant on fossil fuels.
i bitch daily when i see the prices rise for no reason other than greed.
my point? not a damned thing, its venting plain and simple, much like you are gwil.
i have to use fuel, most have to use MS, i could resort to another occupation, you could resort to another hobby.. i doubt it will happen, but it could.
bitching may make you feel better, i know it works for me, but it will change little.
we have been discussing this for an hour now, and i am no closer to ditching my windows Xp and 2000 pro than i was before.. i bet no one else is either.
make yourself happy, but expect it to only effect you.

All I did was make a point that while IE may be the "best" , it's certainly not great and has it's failings
Like I said, I cant change opinions, and people are reluctant to change unless it gets really bad, i was merely outlining a few points
and finally, not just you - everyone who does it, the word is "affect"
effect is the the result of something affecting a body/situation/whatever  its like the your/you're thing

It's not exactly venting, I'm responding to points raised in the thread, around browser software, and more to the point the most famous and widely used piece of browser software. If I was truly "venting" , I wouldn't be doing it in IE 5 (or 6 or whatever it is im using), that would be a little ironic
I'm just pointing out some of the failings - as people were only to happy to do with Opera/netscape... seems when the knife sticks into their own product, they vehemently defend to the last ounce. It's just like the criticism of Opera! BUT people fuelled it by arguing back
its called debate   (and yes this is slightly tongue in cheek, im not fighting back... really...)

Dont hate me.. and please dont use me.. Just love me..
ALl this I hate M$, and I use MS, has my feelings hurt.. i thought we were friends..
ROFLMFAO..
I use em all.. and can say that by far Linux is more stable, and powerful.. Windows is easier, and out there more than linux, so more computer buyers feel comfortable with windows, and its compatibility, besides more games are written for thier OS than Linux now.. even though were getting ports, and wine is hadling more of the MS OS games now adays..

People don't bother with Linux because it seems like much more hassle to use it than Windows, which, at worst, needs a new security update every couple of weeks! Linux doesn't need updating on a regular basis, does it? Similarly with IE- so it has some security holes, but the vast majority of users will never be affected (beyond having their home page reset or something, oh boo hoo I'm too stupid to fix this but not to use a Lunix command prompt!)

I us firebird and Orph I recon you should give it a try. It has several features not present in IE and auto-imports all your favorites. As for the javascript thing, the netscape based browsers support java/script totally. If a script does not work it is because it does not follow the standards properly. The same for websites that look wrong, if they work in IE it is because they were most likely made with a microsoft product and use codes that are not in the W3 standards... And there you have a gripe with microsoft - they are the ones breaking the standards, but because the ms product is the more widely used, it ends up making their competitors who do follow the standards look bad.

I use Mozilla. Not firebird or anything just straight mozilla. Damned useful. I've only found IE any good when I got the Google toolbar which massively expanded its capability. As for Microsoft. Well I appreciate what they've done with Win XP, Office etc. but well... lets just say I'm lucky my Win 98 PC here isn't showing a nice fat blue screen right now.

I think most new versions of plain old mozilla has that... I know mine does.
it works if you just type in a few words- it'll just plug them into the search engine you slelected. Very convenient.

I use IE, Opera and Mozilla. Each for different things because they all have their ups and downs.
