Chiptunes are so awesome. Anyone else listen to them?

(for those who don't know: think video game music, sort of. Lots of square and sine waves, extremely electronic sounding. Very unique.)

Parts of that track have the classic video game style - think Tyrian - but much of it is just dissonant :/

Yeah.. I grew up watching the same shows. Did anyone ever see that show called Highway Man, about these guys that drove around in big trucks, and protected people between cities on the highway? Had that guy from the Energizer Commercials.. OI OI OI!!! Well anyways it was a very short run show.. the Truck cab turned into a Helicopter.

Orph there is nothing wrong with having them Female CHIP Cops on your wall is there?

I listen to chip tunes... some are very cool. Mech Warrior had some awesome music.

Iron Maiden, Yeah BOI! Alexander the Great is my favorite song.

But I also Like Buck O'Nine.. they rock..

When I first saw this I thought he was talking about the Chipmunks.. I have thier Christmas Album. =) lol

Nothing, if that's what you like. Personally I tend to dislike parts of music that clash horribly, unless there is a clear dramatic effect intended.

From Tennyson's "Maud":

And the soul of the rose went into my blood,
As the music clashed in the hall;
And long by the garden lake I stood,
For I heard your rivulet fall

Often it just depends on whether you're "inside the hall" or not. Dissonance never draws me inside, but if I'm already there I might overlook or even enjoy it.

I quite like the "blah-blah-blah" one though (for a start, it's in tune).

I enjoyed the Enter the Matrix music. If you search hard enough you can find a track called "Go" by Andy Hunter on Microsoft.com

You can make your own music with a program called Acid, which can produce really good tracks of this type. The old address was http://www.sonicfoundry.com

I'd consider Acid pretty much useless for producing chiptunes. It's a very useful program but can't really capture this style correctly. If you've got musical talent you could opt for Modplug Tracker. It's the standard program for produces XM, S3M, IT and MOD modules that nearly all chiptunes are composed in.

A lot of technical ability goes into this style of music - fitting as much as drums, chords, lead, bass, and sound effects into four channels using very lo-fi instruments is a tricky process.

Also, maybe I'm deaf, but I don't hear this dissonance you're talking about, unless it's the pitch bends everywhere (which are really cool). Anyway, here's another one that people seem to enjoy. Dualtrax is getting better at this stuff:

http://www.snarkpit.com/pits/hornpipe2/junk/dt_orion.zip

Edit: Winamp's XM playback tends to be sub-par at times, so maybe that's it...

I enjoy Andy Hunter a lot, but was it in "Enter the Matrix"? I don't recall it...although I do know it's in The Italian Job. Personally I learnt about the song at summer camp (he IS a Christian Artist  )

Which Italian Job?

The first film, the game, or the second film?

"Go" by Andy Hunter was in the new Italian Job film when that woman was driving around in the mock building in the mini. The track also featured in Enter the matrix in 2 places:
1. When Ghost fights Trinity in the zen garden
2. If you leave it one the menu screen for long enough, the game switches to an advert in which the second half is this track.

Hope this clears it up!

Personally I love the tetris theme tune....

The other day me and about 9 m8s were all singing in the lobby of a cinema before watching "Kill Bill" (wicked film, go watch it!), sounded so cool, some were doing bass, others drums and the rest doing the synth

Haha, a friend and I did a rendition of the Crashman theme (Megaman 2) that's sure to convince Gollum I'm tonedeaf.

http://www.mp3.com/ornopay_usicmay/

Download "Crash Symbol".
