Hello,

I've hunted around online and cannot find any mention of this, so I
thought I'd ask here: is there a maximum number of
info_player_deathmatch entities that the HL engine will
allow? (I have a level with 52 of them: my general feeling is
that they all seem to be working, but unless I spend several hours
doing nothing but killing myself and respawning, it's impossible to be
sure...)

Thanks,

Pete.

There is no maximum, when you respawn it chooses one spawn at random. However, you cant have more than 32 players on a server.

Ah, right. Thanks for that. (I suspect I was thinking of
the 32-player limit, because I did have that number in mind.)

I was told that you spawn in the order of how you placed them while building the map. I never tested this theory, but if true, it could lead to some interesting situations if planned well.

I have actually wondered about that, now and again -- especially when I
(as the person hosting, and therefore the first to spawn) often seem to
start in the same place every time. But then, just when I think
that's what it is doing, it will suddenly behave completely differently.

Mark wil5on's answer correct.
Better to be in denial than to be human.

I tried it in my map, and it appears to be random most of the times.

I think that the distance between all your spawn points effects if you spawn at them next or not.
And what the F***K are you staring at!?

That was true in the quake engine, afaik the Half-Life engine does not
uses this. Ive repsawned in the same spawn point straight after dying...
