Ok, so far i have had 3 ideas for new maps, and there all coming along very nicely, except for the fact, that i cant open my pak0.pak file, WorldCraft says its not a valid PAK file and wont load it....Also, everytime I try to make a level outside, it never works, and the WorldCraft always crashes as im compiling. I dont know if that pack file not working has something to do with it. The other thing, is i cant compile an OP4 map in WC. I dont know why but it gets stuck right at the part where it executes Copy file "x" where "x" is the name of your map. Any Ideas???

Do you mean opening pak0.pak through the texture selection list? If so, you dont do that - the pak files dont have textures inside, I fail to see why you'd actually need to open the .pak file. Open liquids.wad, decals.wad, xeno.wad and hl.wad
[edit] This should actually be in Half-Life Editing

NEED HELP!!!
OK, heres the deal. My light environment will NOT work. I have done everything that i am sposed to do....I have looked in other formus, and they tell me to set pitch to a negitive number....and the brightness doesnt seem to help. My level is compleatly black. Except for the sky, the sky is fine, but everytime i try to make an outdoor area, nothing seems to work. We need a tutorial badly on How to make outside area's. I was wondering if it is becasue i am compiling Opposing Forces textures with the WC settings as HL. I dont know if light even touches the texures, b/c the textures may not even be there. Just a thought...I really have no idea what im talking about  . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

light environs always work if..
1) you have a sky..
2) you set the properties of the light..
3) placed one..
4) you have no leaks

You either have the brightness of the light environment at 0, or you have it pointing up or you accidently deleted it/changed it before compiling.
Have to laugh at that tutorial though, so old that it still thinks you need more than 1 light environment!!

Holy crap, your light_environment brightness is 600 and you want it to be dusk? Turn that mother down.
I'd recommend against foregoing the light_environment entirely, it'll make it really dark in some places. Try a brightness around 30 and work from there. Don't let that stop you from setting up outdoor lights to add contrast though.

It's just a thought, but you might try the light_spot ent. it has an "is sky" flag. this makes it exactly the same as the light_environment but at least it's somthing else to try.
You definatly do not want to try and replace an environment light with texture lighting.

i was never keen on that method, am not sure if its wrong exactly, but my preferance is the light_environment..
set it up, just like a normal light, set the pitch to a minus number, such as -75 and angle it down... use the clock dial to designate how you want the sun to shine FROM in the top down window of your editor..
thats all there is to it.. remember a L_E is far brighter than a regular light, start with about 50, then bump it up or down, depending on the light level you wish.. color is very important to....
good luck

Ok, I just tried what you said Orph, and it still doesnt seem to work...I think im just going to make a spotlight and work from there, it will make the map actualy look like it is dusk...The other thing is some of the maps that i play outside have walls to prevent players from going outside the level...is this a seperate box with the cealing cut off? Or is it just the sides of the original box...? I have just one box and i made the cealing a sky texture and the walls the texter that i wanted. I am still wondering if it could be due to the fact that im using op4 textures in a WC's HL compiling mode...I cant compile at all when i open up my settings for op4....is this right?

let me say this real slow..
light_enviroments always work if you set them up properly..
if yours doesn't, then guess what? its not the lights fault, slow down quadruple check everything if need be..
let me also say, if any of the other lights work and the environmental doesn't, it can mean only one last thing, you have no sky, or it isn't a real sky..
a skybrush cannot have any other texture on it, it must be 100% skybrush, or the light_env. will fail..
i am 100% sure of this.. go back and recheck your map.. or post a link to it and i will..

Orph, im not saying your wrong...god knows im not, all im saying is that im a noob and im doing something wrong. I have checked over the map numerous times and i cant find my mistake. This has nothing to do with your info, and im not arguing that the L_E doesnt work b/c its the lights fault. Like i said before, im a noob and im frustrated because i cant do this for my self. I would never try to out smart a vertrain. I dont want you to get the wrong idea here OK?

The end to Orpheus patience.. lol.
The other choice would be to goto Prefab Land and download a prefab and use its sky and light setting, or use it as a learning tool, and make your own..
ORPH, im gonna give your suggestion a try and see what I come up with.. I have never done it that way so it should be fun.. How is your new map coming along?

My maps are great!...Except for the lighting, but its a nice level and im hoping to have it done by the end of this month...as for my elevator, i have figured that out and that level still needs a lot of work. And my highway overpass level is coming along nicely...execpt for the lighting... . And my second version of my op4_shotgun level is going to be out soon...IT HAS A LASER!!!! oooooo

I GOT IT!!!! Ok, the problem was with my textures. Orph, you were defenetly right in what you had to say, but it was my fault, all i had was the bottom of my roof of my map covered in the sky texture...then i realized that i didnt have the top of the roof covered in the sky texture, as soon as i did that, it worked! Thanks for your help guys!

HAHA!!! are you serious? I never thought i would see the day that Orpheus cant solve a problem  . And yes, you did get me to look harder  . My map is on its way, and doing very well, the originality of it, proboly isnt all that original....but im working on what you guys have taught me and eye candy for the level...The only thing is that i get "Short xx Surfaces" and some of my map disapears. I know you wrote a tut on it Orph, and i even saw the answer to it just the other day...but you know i cant seem to locate that paragraph that you wrote on it! Haha, i have a real problem with overlooking the obvious. Thanks for all the help guys and i will post the map as soon as im done!
