After all these months, the Black Mesa Developers have finally come to a conclusion. Black Mesa will not be released in 2009. ;(

Original Topic: http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?t=2416

What do you think about this? Should they've released it already, or should they do their best to complete the project so it's bug free?

I don't really care, I just hope they won't hurry with it.

Oh man don't do that again please. I got the impression from your post they stopped working on the mod!

No I don't think they should have released it early, a polished bug free product is twice as good as the nearly finished thing.

Think of it this way, a year after release what would you prefer? The nicely polished thing ofcourse. What's that saying.. short term pain, long term gain. ;)

I agree with Aaron, if anything, I'm glad it's still being developed at all. It's been in dev for a freakish long time.

Needless to say: I still look forward to it.

Don't you think that would be almost impossible? They came so far, they won't just suddenly stop :)

And yeah I agree with you, it's only better that it got delayed.

Well, I'm not jumping with glee that it got delayed, but then again, I wasn't surprised either. I do agree though, that with more time in the bucket, they'll be able to pour more stuff out at once, -nothing wrong with that. But only because they're not a recognized official developer of anything. So if they were an incorporated developer, this would look bad on the business side of things.

But I can wait

Yeah, up until perhaps last week, I had absolutely no clue about the game, never heard of it. Now, having heard heard about it, I can't wait!! And of course I agree that they should do everything properly and bug free. The game will be played regardless if it comes out tomorrow, or if it comes out on next year's Christmas, so why not do a fantastic job and release it whenever possible?

Having said that I have to start taking medication soon to stop thinking about the release date of Episode 3

I dont get why this mod is taking so long to be released. Its not like they're developing a new game from scratch or from an abstract concept, a lot of the levels and layouts are already there, like wise the models and weapons are already sketched out.

I could be wrong that they're copying the game as a whole, and they're doing their own interpretation, but from what I've seen the levels, models, weapons are all reproductions of the original half life. Granted texture work will have to be done from scratch, but this has been in talk since HL2 was released. That ~5 years ago.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to see the original story in an updated engine, but even now the engine is ~5 years old, and the longer they wait to release anything the older/dated the source engine becomes.

bug free wor the win
i dont want to play anything with obvious and useless/unnessecary bugs.
i'd play it if they release it in 2015 (if we're all still here xD) if it ment that it was bugfree :P, since its an old game on a semi oldish engine i dont mind the wait.

Also since its a mod team i think we can cut them some slack on the resetting of the release date... since its such a common occurance even with professional developing companies, and assuming these guys would be 'amateurs' who need to learn from these kinds of errors :)

You cant use the same measuring sticks for payed people and people who mdo in their spare time (which for some people is not alot of time per week/month).

I was at leakfree.org when they started the idea for this mod and i have been waiting since then. :D
