If you have one of those moments where you want to replay an old game, but you don't really see why and it is bugging you, then try to play and complete the game without dying.

I've been trying this forever with Gothic 2, and my record was level 11, Chapter 1. Remember that I never load a saved game either, unless I stop playing and continue the other day of course. But I never do it to undo actions.

Since a few days ago I've tried it again but 10 minutes ago I died again, I came to lvl 7 this time.

Hint: When you say to yourself you shouldn't take any risks like I did, then really don't. I was seeing a Goblin Warrior and I thought I could easily beat him because I was able to beat lower-ranked goblins in one hit. Well I took the risk (my first) and died.

Damn goblin only had like 10% of his health left

However, I actually have managed this with L4D Single Player - Normal Difficulty. Including the DLC Crash Course.

With Half-Life 1 on Hard I died at the Blast Pit chapter... by... falling from a ladder... <no comments> :p

It's great fun though, you should try it too. It works best for games like Halo, but RPG games are ok too, just remember that you may not load a saved game to re-do a certain part where you lost health etc. Imo that's cheating :p

Write down your progress and record for each game somewhere in a notebook, or within Word/Excel or something alike.

Oh, expect intense heart beatings at points where you are low on health in a battle :D

There's no option for "Yes, I've done this recently and intend to do it again in just a minute".
Now remember kids. Asking questions is a good way to get censored by the government.

This assumes that you only play games with one ending. I've played the civ games dozens of times. Fallout 3 about 6 times and so on and so forth. In other words, games that end when I finish or determined upon my decisions during.

I reckon if you're gonna play only games that end, then altering the methodology of how you reach it is your only alternative.

I often replay games, but I never try anything as OCD as "don't die"

Just you.

I have OCD about the gas caps on my truck so its just normal conversation to me.

Offensive- What a really moronic poll.. If he'd said that then I'd be concerned.

This comment doesn't even register on the offended scales.

/2cents

BTW, all good polls have an "Other" option.

Nope - I feel the same way. I don't try to be OCD about games I replay. I can enjoy the "challenge" of others doing it, but TBH I dont have that much time of my own (between work and school), so thats not my cup of tea. Maybe for a level I'll be OCD (like a song on guitar hero), and i'll continually replay it till I get it perfect.

I think I just don't really understand the meaning of OCD then, is it like giving yourself unnecessary goals?

Nice... like how you use a medical term to slap the man across his face.. guess it worked too cause he never saw it coming and is still dazed and confused.

Maybe he enjoys trying to beat a game without dying.. hell many people do.. does that mean they too suffer from Obsessive-compulsive disorder? No it means they have set a goal and want to try and achieve it. But you want to take this time to insult and label someone for the ass-thuggery of it... because you think your superior to him and want to make sure he knows it.

See this is why I have just decided to join you FUCKTARDS in your games, instead of trying to save the PIT from its self. This is no longer a Mapping or hell even a creative site.. it is a deep dark hole of ass-thuggery, an ePeen contest to see who can whap the other guy harder with his penis. Hell Riven does not care, he said as much... he is all for the penis slap fest, it offers amusement to what Orph thinks is a dead and uninteresting site.. after all he does not think anyone would want to be here, and who could blame them, after all this is what it has boiled down too... an Ass parade. So Drop them pants and show your ass.. cause we have given up all hope of this being a respectable Mapping resource site by now. Right fellas?

There's an unwritten difficulty for the Halo games called "mythic difficulty" and to finish the game on mythic difficulty you have to:
  • Play the game on legendary (hardest difficulty).
  • Turn all skulls on (the skulls make the game way harder e.g 4x health for enemies, less ammo in the levels etc).
  • Get through each level without dying.
It sounds crazy to me but people have done it and written strategy guides for completing the halo games on mythic difficulty, so I don't think your proposition is too OCD Nib.

But me personally, it sounds too stressful assuming you play on the hardest difficulty. Sounds like something I wouldn't re-try if I fail the first time.

Don't sweat it, I'm using the term casually. I can't really think of what else to call it.

Not to say you're a person who suffers from a compulsive disorder.

It's just how I phrase it if someone talks about things like perfect runs, flawless playthroughs, or collecting every item, having the highest stats, etc. It just doesn't sound particularly fun and sounds more like a need to have the best number or the 100% somewhere, rather than the fun. Not that what you're saying isn't fun. I just think it's needlessly nerve wracking.

I'm all for making the game do things it shouldn't though. That can be lots of fun. (Like inventing a new game within the game. For example, in Mario 64 in Japan, the 1UP mushroom actually follows you ... it doesn't in other regions, but I've seen some fun videos of trying to stay away from it. It goes through walls and everything)

Anyway, it's nothing to take personally, I wasn't calling you OCD.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I direct you to crono's comment. We're not calling you OCD, its the process of completely replaying games has similarities to OCD.
I'm OCD when mapping: I need all brushes to align to major lines.
In programming I'm OCD about code styles.

So much so in both cases it hinders my work on a project.

Wow way to be over-dramatic to a comment. You think its bad now in the way of crass comments, you should remember back to the pit around 2002 - 2003.

How is commenting in a general thread turn to being a poor mapping community? O.o Its not, we're in the general board, having general/random discussions. The pit still gives good feedback because we're all ass-hats, we're not gonna butter things up. If you really think this place is as such, then make your own site and community.

I'd like to point out that the people here NOW, are exactly the same types we had in our long ago days. Its not our talking that's changed. Its the amount of active members that has. The ratio of personalities is about the same as its always been.

We are NOT in a decline because of what's being posted. We are in a decline because the members gone are obviously not here to post.

Most have grown up, or grown away. What we need to do is what we originally did in the beginning. Recruitment drives. Visit mapping servers and comment well and openly on the maps being tested and add a comment about Snarkpit, then leave.. No strings, just leave.

"If we build it, they will come" That was more/less out motto in the early days. AND it worked very, very well.

The best things in life, aren't things.
