Maybe your light map is screwed up, try taking a look at it in the 3d (right click on camera and select light map) view to see if it is scaled up or too low, but Ive never seen something like this!

no, i will right now. I don't really understand what im looking for though.
**edit** I have no clue what i'm looking for. How do I know if they are
off scale? All I see is a blue grid. Thats all it means to me too.

Well thats all you needed to look for to see if your light map was being generated, and it sounds like it is. Try ALT-P to look for problems. Or try changing the light values around to see if that does anything.

but i think you should stop mapping right now, all those screenshots look to me like there has been a huge waste of time... what are you doing there?

Its because your using a texture in the model/ folder, use a different one. i had this with cliffs :S
