Well, I'm off to my first LAN party in awhile. I first started when I was around seven or eight (5 or 6 years ago) when TFC and DOD had just come out, and CS was still building its following.

I'm sure most people here have been to at least one LAN party, if not you really should. Just thought we should share some of our fondest LAN Party memories.

Mine is at my third LAN party, when everyone wanted to come to my place. We managed to cram 32 people in the basement. My fondest memory is eating an entire box of tangerines on my own, while drinking Coke and playing Warpath.

I dream of going to one of those LAN parties, but I have never been to one. In fact, I never played a single deathmatch game until recently (over the internet).

And of course, being a neophyte, I get slaughtered frequently (but I have since improved...I slaughter others too).

I'm about to have a small LAN with some friends in a couple weeks. Garage time.

We usually end up doing knife fight tournaments. It's especially awesome in Far Cry (not everyone has HL2  ) becuase there's a complete cinematic and epic feel.

I'm trying to get a light for my projector so I can have some console games set up too.

I've only been to a bunch of small LANs. Always fun to play NS with
everyone screaming at each other and the commander what to do.

Hopefully within the next few weeks myself and about 8 others from my
networking class will have a LAN party, probably play some oldschool
DoD, Half-Life2 and its variants, C&C Generals and just about any
other game we can get a hold of.

Never been to one and I don't plan to. Me and my flatmate used to play, and then have another person on his laptop, but he got bored of losing

I think DoD is the best LAN party game. Playing overlord, and assaulting Omaha beach with enough bots to fill the server never gets old.

And then you play TFC and warpath with no time limit, our longest game was 5 hours straight, followed by an hour of overlord then right back into warpath.

I used to do LAN parties a fair amount with about 6 of us, but
everybody just wanted to play CS all the time which was kinda dull with
so few players. Some really good games nonetheless, and on the
occasions we would play something different (Q3 CTF, all players
against twice as many bots!) it could be really awesome. Now I live ina
flat with a permanent 5 person LAN, so I guess the appeal has sorta
faded.

I was at only one LAN but it was very worthy. Everyone else there was
at least twice as old as me, I didn't have my own system, I had to
borrow, but I didn't do too bad. Low-grav UT insta-gib really improves
your aim at all FPS games... It was friakin sweet. I ate 2 party-sized
bags of BBQ chips and drank a whole mountain of Mountain Dew cans. We
also had small tournaments with prizes throughout the night and I won
an awesome t-shirt that says: "If it doesn't kill you, it may just be
reloading". Anyhows, that was a very awesome experience. Now that I
have my own machine fixed up to a point of HL2ability, I'm planning on
attending some more.

yeah i been to 2 big ones (+-1200 ppl) in the days when i played tfc regularly. it's nice that you have games with skilled ppl non-stop, and a lot of clanwars in a short period.

You gotta be prepared to be submerged in a world filled with irl nerds ofcourse.

Also making fun of a guy that fell asleep on his keyboard whilst having eaten half of a plate full of hamburgers is quite entertaining.

I'm only gonna do little lans occasionaly now.

LAN parties is like pasta. You can stand it for three days, then you get sick of it. But a few days later you want more.
Anyway, my best LAN memories must be from the time we used to gather around 15 people and rent a little place over a few days during the school breaks. We had so much fun. The gaming at that time was almost religious. Every little game of Age of empirers was great fun. I remember playing Delta Force team deathmatch, and we had very crappy computers. Sometimes you didnt know if you shot at a guy or if it was a tree, because of the low resolution. When we got bored of our crappy computers we played poker with our pizza-ordering money, or we played "round-ping pong". (dont know what its called in english). Sometimes when we couldnt beat eachother, we took revenge in wrestling eachother down. Ah good old times.

well, in my current hall of residence the block im living is all
networked up. This means theres about 60-70 potentially able to join a
lan, and people frequently do within minutes of a lan game being
created.

Which is annoying as well, because people try to join my game when ive just done a compile.

We used to have a bit of a lan party at my school every wednesday lunch we started before Opp force came out then we moved on to that and tfc then on to cs there were about 20 PC's in the room that we had it in.

One night when i was in the 6th form some of the year 7 or 8's were having a sponcered stay awake and a bunch of mates and me offered to help keep a eye on them to make sure they stayed awake and didnt get up to anythng. They opened the IT department up for it so they would have something to keep them occupied and so we had a good old frag fest on UT.

It was about 10 or 11pm when I got in there I think and I know we were in there untill they kicked us out at 7am

the best things ive ever done! im planning a small 5 man one again for
3 days some point in july after my gcse's

we played a 4 player game of starcraft on some very crazy levels, and a
bit of hl2 speed running (on the 2 pc's that had it), some DMC, NS and
good ol' DM

Been to two LAN parties, both in Cambridge and both as part of the old
Wireplay Total Annihilation Club  30-40 people at both, cheap bar (I
was only 15/16 but got a few beers, win!).

Had hot chili con carne bought out at 4am on the second one I attended,
really good crack overall - even booked a room in the hotel we were
using for the LAN party, never got used

Also got teamed up with the organisers brother for the Q3 CTF 2v2
tournament, won a copy of the new hot title "Ground Control" as my
choosable prize for the troubles. Definately a good laugh. Organised
one for myself, about 12 people attended and we mostly played the
predecessor to Battlefield 1942 - the infinitely superior CODENAME
EAGLE! (OOOOOOOOOOOGLEH!). Great times indeed. Definately thinking
about holding one in my area when I get back from travelling - this
time old enough to drink

Good times, indeed!

I've been to some LAN parties, but they're always small. The
problem is I live in Maine....USA, and well, to be frank, Maine isn't
excatly Silcone Valley. In fact it sucks here, and there is a freakin'
lot of snow. Anyway the funniest LAN memory I have is when the host
picked up a Hoover vaccum, and held it behind and to the left of this
one guy who was sitting at his chair with his headphones on, and the
host turned it on. The guy just jumped and yelled, it was so funny.
Another funny thing was with that same guy, the one who was 'vaccumed'
(no we didn't try and vaccum his face we just suprised him), he had a
monitior from a dump. It actually worked believe it or not, but the
funny thing was sometimes it would randomly turn off during DOD or any
game. In order to fix this he would whack it on the side and it would
actually turn back on! Hehe, so during DoD I was hearing this... *bang
bang* AH! MOTHER ******! WHACK WHACK WHACK Oh crap! I died now!
Jeeze..." It was so funny to see out of the corner of my eye...anyway
those were some of my best memories.
