i know this isnt really a help forum and i get nothing out of steam support (i put something to them a month ago and they still havent replied) so i thought some of you guys could help:

I go to log onto steam and it has to update. when i gets to about 28% it closes and comes up with this error messege:
Steam.exe (main exception); ERROR:delete of Steam.exe failed, Win32 Error 5 "Access is denied"
What is this and could someone please help because my offline mode isnt working either.
(plus i have an exceptionally hard time posting it always comes up saying page cannot be displayed - this is my second attempt)

What kind of internet connection do you have? DSL or other form of broadband? Do you have a wireless connection?

A bad connection with poor signal could cause all those issues, including the posting issues.

Hmm, noise in the telephone line could cause connection to break, causing Steam update to fail.

In addition, do you have call-waiting activated? If so, an incoming call would cause an audible signal in the line, thus corrupting the connection.

You can try this FAQ:

But seriously, listen to Azelito and search the www.steampowered.com forums.

Just a guess.....

If you are using windows XP Pro, check the file permissions
(properties/security tab) and make sure the account you are logged in
as has permission to delete steam.exe

<-Hope this helps->

Yes, to complete the update process, the steam process has to be killed to restart it afterwards. Your account might not have the rights to do that.

Isass.exe
lsass.exe? Lsass or Isass cause Lsass is the Local Security Authority Service has not-so-fond memories of the sasser virus. If it's Isass and it mimmics Lsass, then it is spyware.

Isass.exe

It only shows up in my processes window of task manager and that wont let me close it down. Plus it doesnt show up in my Spybot S&D.

Supposing this is the advice you got from the Steam forums, try doing
it again. I had this problem and solved it this way. It happens for
unknown reason so it mght just have happened again when you restarted
steam after fixing it.
