Can someone explain the personal rating system. It doesn't seem to follow any pattern I can distinguish. Do we rate how we like people, or how we feel they are a contributing member of the community. Contrary to what you may think, the two concepts are not interchangeable. I for instance, am a good person, but have contributed nothing, so I might rate high on one and low on the other.

Please define which is employed here. Thanks in advance.

I think he means you should search using the search function. :wink:

Click "forums". Under the list of forums click "search the forums".

well... this isn't a suggestion or bug, and its not really something to
seach for. Its a question, but not a mapping question... so I'd
say this is the righ place for it.

I dont really rate many people (i'd just give them 5s anyways) but i
think you should rate people on how much they contribute to the
site. Take Orph for instance, he sometimes has unpopular veiws
and can be a nag when it comes to image files sizes (some one has to do
it) but if some one, anyone, asks him to review their map he will do
it. He will even ask others to give them a review (he has sent me
a few PMs with links to maps) so while you may not agree with him, as
far as the site goes, he is a 5.

Then on the other hand, some one may be real nice and not do
jack-anything for the site. In that case I dont rate them... BUT
if they are an ass that does jack-crap on the site, i give them a 1 or
2.

So, how come only some people have the option then? I see some pretty special members that cannot be rated at all. Seems a bit unfair to me. I also see some people who do not contribute jack, and have the option available. That also seems unfair. Why would losers have the option and not valued members?

What am I missing yet?

I would like to meet this Orpheus. He seems like the kind of person you would most like to hate, but can't when you add all his pro's and con's together.

You rate people however you want to rate them. Myself, I interpret the
rating to be "mapping talent" rather than personal worth or
contribution.

In your "Control Panel" under "Edit Preferences" you can set your
rating to be visible or hidden or you can choose not to be rated at all.

I do not have none of those options. :cry:

"update"

Oh yeah I do, sort of. I guess what it is, is I cannot rate myself so I cannot see mine. THAT makes sense. :smile:

None of us can rate you because you don't have any maps. :smile:

This is how I rate people:

1 = crappy maps + jackass + I HATE YOU

2 = crappy maps + jackass

3 = I don't use 3's

4 = good maps + jackass

5 = good maps + interesting
One day you'll know what you're talking about, I can hardly imagine

I do not have any maps? Thats crap. What does someone do who is valuable to the site, yet creates no maps, nor is interested in doing so?

I think some other factors should be included. I feel cheated, and I am a nobody. I imagine some of you non mappers must really be miffed.

Anyway, since it seems reliant on maps to initiate the action, perhaps I should make something. Then again, without a map, you will have to rant about me via the open forums. :biggrin:

My problem right this moment seems to be my observational skills. I keep finding new things to see here, but they are not new to you guys apparently.

This whole thread for instance. Yes, my question was answered, yet not. Thats not really an issue worth making a fuss over, but still I feel like I am overlooking vital portions of Snarkpit.

Hell, I just realized that one of my all time favorite HL2DM maps has the author right here. Thats exciting, and depressing at the same time. Exciting that he is here, but it took me, to long to realize.

I will be glad when winter arrives. This is my heavy workload time of year and I have no spare time for much. In fact, I should be working now but....

I rate every person who helps me out, in whatever way, be it a mapping problem or some program I cannot find.

Also, people who really made a good map (= a map I crack open a third
or a fourth time after downloading, just for fun) get a rating.

The same goes for people who are very active on the forum.

You rate it how you want to rate it, since there's no way to police the thing (I say police, but any "official meaning" would also lead someone to interpret their rating in that way, which may be incorrect as to how they've been rated so far by people). Ideally it would be on their mapping abilities...

Here's how I rate people - If I see someone who's rating I don't agree with (either too high or too low), I cast a 1 or a 5 vote to swing it towards where I think it should be. I currently run the board in condensed view, so I don't see people's ratings (along with their av's and sig's) so you all are currently spared my judgemental righteous wrath.
