Hey is there some version of gcfscape that Im not
aware of? Everytime I try to run it after installation it tells
me:The application has failed to initalise properly. Is there any
solutions? I need to edit a glass texture to make it so you cant
see through it is there any other way to do this? Thanks

You need the .NET framework v1.1 installed on your comp. It's available as a windows update.

You also need to have steam turned off in order to browse the gfc, so don't forget to to that

Yeah, but it tells you that. It doesn't say, "You don't have .NET Framework installed" (Because, the .NET code with in the application is sending the message as opposed to GCF scape actually sending the message, you'd think they put in a check with some conditioning to tell what you need and where to get it!)

OK I did what you guys suggested and now I am getting a new
error. CLR error:8004005. It then goes on to explaine that
it was a fatal error and the application will now terminate. I
cant belive I need this program to make glass opaque.

Um. Well, you do need the .NET framework.

And ... that IS a .NET error. So, you shouldn't have marked his answer wrong.

There's something else going wrong, I've heard that program compatibilities in XP effect this ...

Honestly, I don't know though. It's pretty difficult to find a list of the Error messages meanings for the common language runtime online. The only way I know of to really get to the bottom of it is to run the identifier yourself. Which, I doubt would help.

So, I'm guessing, since not many other people have problems with it, the problem is on your end.

Since you now have .NET 1.1 installed (which is the version you want, not 1.0 or 2.0b) Get a fresh version of GCF scape, from Nem's Tools. Completely uninstall the version you have and put it on fresh. I also suggest NOT getting the installer. Just get the zip package and upzip it to wherever you want on your HDD (no need to create registry entries!)

Other then that, post your issue on the forums specifically made for that tool.

Also, don't get all pissy at the program, it works fine. .NET is most likely having the troubles.

Nothing. For what he asked, you were absolutely correct.

There's something else wrong now. It's a .NET error, obviously, since .NET is sending the message and killing the application. I don't know what the error it is though, I only found the thing on the backwards compatibility settings.

But, yeah, for the initialization error, which is what the original problem of this thread was, your answer was correct.

I don't know why he marked it wrong, to be honest, since there's, obviously, a new problem. Something which you couldn't have anticipated.

The second error seems to be an obscure result that would have happened anyway, since it's independent on that system only.

There's a .NET update out, you know. v1.1, I think. Just uninstall
GCFscape, run windows update, restart your computer, then install
GCFscape, and things should run fine.

Sorry I have not responded in a while college work just cought up with
me and this had to get knocked off my priority list. I am sorry
If I marked an answer wrong that wasint wrong it just did not solve my
problem. I am going to try and reinstall both the .net framework
and gfscape (with the zip archive) and see if that works if it
dosent I will try on another computer on my network and edit the file
on it and then transfer it back over to the comp that I am doing the
editing on. Thanks for helping I wiil get back to you when I find
a solution!

You said in a previous post you needed this to make glass opaque...
that implies you want to modify materials, right? Why not just create a
new material with opaque settings? You'll need to create one under a
different name anyway so why not just start doing a texture yourself if
this tool doesn't work for you?
