Hey guys, im haveing a bit of a problem,
it recurs and usualy i just start from scratch, but this time im a bit
too annoyed to do that.

what is happening is this

when i hit f9 to compile and test, it "compiles" the map and then puts
me in the game, all fine and dandy, exept, none of the changes are made.

It looks like you're trying to run Steam offline and it is causing some problems. Trying logging onto Steam to get any updates you may have missed and then compiling your map (while still in the Online mode)

Is it still necessary to export?

Perhaps there is something erroneous in the saving.

Also, what is all the asterisk signs in your log?

@Orph: no, exporting isn't necessary. And I can't remember it ever was?

The map isn't compiling indeed. I'm with Vash: try compiling while running on-line.

Orpheus: Some people are a bit paranoid about making their Steam username public, so they replace it with asterisk's.

Yeah? So why are they missing in the last line?

And Capt P.. It was 100 percent necessary if you used a batch compiler in HL1

F9 used the .rmf.

Frontends used .map

If you didn't "Export to map" your changes didn't take effect.

I used frontends for all but my first map. I liked the flexibility. F9 used to much ram. Back then, I had no spare ram.

He overlooked it, I would assume. Or perhaps he's set up his preferences wrong...Which isn't possible, because it's done automatically.

Then I guess he is left with the WinSock error.

Funny, if he could make maps offline for a time, what changed recently??

I thought you could make maps offline 100% of the time..

There are a ton of different things that can cause this, Orph. Steam update issues, failure to update issues, or internet connection. I rememebr getting the same error message once, however I was logging on. I reset my router and it went away.

arg, i have the most up to date versoin of steam etc, i havet ran in offline mode in...actualy i havent full stop.

this is pretty frustraiting, i have been through the entire map brush by brush, there are no brushes in brushes, they slot together perfect, everything out of sight is without textures.

i had one half breakthrough, i deleeted the most recent brushes i could remember, and it actualy did more during compile (i have no log soz) but still, no diferent afterwards.

maybey its the 4 combine ball generators and the 4 sheild walls, but il tell you when i try it, but i have doubts. (its an entity heavy map i guess)

and i dont realy care about people getting my email adress, i just dont want people to find me  lol, i have stalkers so to speak

Its not a problem of brushes (or the map for that matter) its a problem
with steam freaking out over some minisule detail that we are not aware
of. I would recomend backing up any and all maps you've made, then do a
reset of the SDK configuration, and see what happens there.

Hammer used the .map file too, but I assume the .map file is created prior to compiling. Not automatically as I always assumed...

Do other maps still compile? A simple room with a player start and light?
When does this occur usually?

Check if any firewalls are preventing steam from reaching the internet.

it usualy occures (well, once, a long time ago) when i have brushes badley done, last time it happend i was mapping for the first time and used the (spit) cut tool, and it ended up adding thousands of brushes in the same places (well, not thousands).

as for the firewall, i doubt its being blocked, but i could always check, i dont have much time now, but il make a stupid room and test that  .
