Just under two weeks remaining. tidy things up gents and we'll wind things down for the June deadline.
I'm curious, damned few have posted links for feedback... We have some confidence this time..
Nice.

Looking good Scythe! Some really good brush work there. I like all of the detailing you've done surrounding the hill. Especially that rear portion with the steps. Very well done.

PVT Scythe Excellent terrain use im loving it
Althought the repeating texture on the mountain near the back is painfully obvious

I was wondering. Does anyone besides me think its important to clarify which website are represented for the entrants?
I think the competition will end fairly no matter, but some of the entrants are members of multiple sites and... Were so prior to the competition beginning. I for one do not want to look up join up dates to see who is whom.
Its rare for Snarkpit to have outsiders in any competition. In fact, I think this is a first.
Opinions?

<SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana">Orph, you did a good job of promoting the contest to other sites. I found out about it through your post at mapcore. As far as entrants representing certain forums, I don?t think taking allegiance to a particular forum is important for purposes of this contest. Ultimately, what forums you belong to and participate in should have no bearing on how your work is judged. If it were a tie breaker situation, it might be fitting to look to other criteria such as forum involvement, be it with Snarkpit or otherwise. </SPAN>
If there happens to be someone who knows me from a particular forum, I would much rather have that person vote for the best map rather than a vote along forum lines alone.

Good thoughts guys.. My only concern was if in the event someone cried foul. I feel that the contest will come off honest but.. I do like to cover my ass.. Figuratively speaking.
So far, I think each site has a fair representation of effort and sportsmanship.
If no one says it, I am proud of each of you and ... Well you know. blushes

I would like to add one thought:
If I were you, I'd get a confirmation of entrance at least 3 days prior to the deadline.
It would be a crying shame to miss out on some trivial deadline error.
On a side note... Can I have a showing of hands of who is entering again. I would like to get a feel for the engines being represented.
Thanx.

If there is a problem, just resend an email with a link this time. Assuming you have a reliable host to link to.

OK, this has been in the back of my mind for days but tonight it moved to the forefront of my thinking.
Since Lep is not available, how are we going to make all these maps so all the members have access to them?
Surely we will not grant access to the Gmail account.
Anyone besides me thought of this small issue yet?

I could also help host maps if necessary, plenty of space through my webserver. Although I don't know if that would be appropriate considering I have an entry in the compo. Maybe there is a free download site out there that doesn't require any sort of registration or outrageous wait times...

My only concern is, without Lep, we have no hosting here.
I thought about this all day and the same problem kept coming up. "How can I get these out?"
One of the maps is 19 megs.. I have 56k and cannot really host it.
How about we figure out how many maps there are, then grant a reliable source to the Gmail account and they can fetch them for hosting.
Would that work?

That sounds fair to me. It will be hard to deem me reliable given that I haven't been around the mapping community too long, but if you all deem me worthy I would be more than happy to assist with hosting.

On the front page you say there's only 12 hours left.
July 1st 12PM GMT is a little less than 32 hours away.

I am trying desperately to acquire these files. If another admin comes online any time soon with broadband, can they please try also.
I wanna confirm these files are intact so we can contact any author who needs to resend theirs.
Thanx

Pvt. Scythes - received "Polluted Coast" for HL1
BlisTer's - received "Modularity" for HL2
Evilis - received "DeepSpaces" for HL2
G.Ballblue - received "Bar Remix" for HL1
Naticus - received "Roman Pool" for HL2
Kasperg - received "Serene" for HL2
dewdle - received "Cathedral" for HL2
Mr.INSANE - received "Stricken" for HL1
M_Gargantua - received "Garg" for HL1
I looked through all the maps save Garg yesterday. My official word is "Fantastic"
I would also like to point out that a few do not fit the guidelines BUT (and I will get a general opinion on this) I will allow them with the condition that they cannot win 1st place. This means that they can win 2nd or 3rd if they get enough votes but that 1st place is reserved for the mapper who followed all the guidelines.
Also, there are enough entries for an HL1 and HL2 vote.. Separately.
(Also with the condition that dewdles entry is classed as HL2 and not subclassed CS/S)
I am open to any/all opinions on this.
Thanx be to everyone.
Orph
[EDIT] I archived everything and left only the 9 maps pertinent to the competition in the Gmail account Gwil. If you need to see the files hit the link to "all"

Bah, you archived half the pieces to one of the files...
/me grumbles whilst he clicks 2 buttons to restore the files, and spends more effort writing this little grumble.
[Edit]- WHAT THE HELL?! Why is the cathedral map 20mb?! Thats insane! Its a small arena contest, what did you include, a 300m tall tower with 1280x1280 res textures?! At least it only took 3 minutes to download (pokes fun at Orph  ).
As for what you said Orph, sound perfectly fine to restrict winning to those who followed guidelines, and the HL1 + HL2 seperate voting seems a good idea, as many people probably no longer have HL1 installed (me for instance).

I actually archived 5 extra copies of the same file Myrk. I am completely mystified why he sent so many but, the one I left should be the only one needed.
