I seem to recall a list of appropriate uses of the F word throughout history. I can't recall them all, but here are the few that I do.

Col. Custer, 1876: "Where the f*** did all those Indians come from?"
Pythagoras' follower, 412 AD: "How the f*** did you figure that out?"
Also change the texture of the dock. Docks are rarely tile. -Facepunch

Well, my problem with overusing swearing is what do you do when you really want to swear. I mean when you hate something so much that the casual f**kwardian vocabulary seems insufficient (because it's overused). You can try and make up new words which is funny but probably not powerful enough. But the next step is just beating the guy in the face and it can only be good if that level is kept as far away as possible.

I don't see the f-word as a symbol, by the way, like many seem to do. It really is harmless. Just a word. But if you swear in every second sentence that's as annoying as the sound of a ticking time bomb. There are two reasons for running amok. Either you're so super conservative that you can't hold it anymore and have to let out your anger in one burst or you're so used to swearing that it doesn't seem sufficient to you and you need a gun to let it out instead. Well, that's not true. But it's close to what I mean. The reason I find swearing annoying.

It's funny how this thread turned out indeed. I skipped the whole Mexican part as I have no idea what the f**k people were talking about.

Cassius, I don't know where you went when you were away from here, But I gotta tell you; I'm impressed. With regard to the authors, books, poems, and terms such as "vers libre," i mean. I'm not being sarcastic either, I have not met many other people in my life who can quote Ezra Pound, or who know jack-all about vers libre.

I'm not really saying that we ought to BAN profanity or anything like that, I'm just saying that in 90% of conversations I have, any word like "bitch" or "f**k" would DEFINITELY kill the mood. Also, I doubt that they say things like that in the euphemism-and-political-correctness-saturated business and politics worlds.

Reaper, in austria, do people use "ficken" or "gefickt" or are there different curses in Austria? Himmeldonnerwetter, just doesnt sound powerful at all in english...

Are you supporting that idea?

A poetry program at Stanford

I catch your drift, Yak. I probably sound pretentious, throwing these terms around, but it's not that much different from a basketball player talking about his game - writing is my thing.

oo, Stanford. Nice. ...and expensive too.

I'd love for writing to be my thing as well. I think I have an excellent command of English, but its the TIME it takes to write anything but short poetry.. man it takes forever... I still have not finished my bathroom book, my Christianity book, or my fantasy novel... I gotta get on that. As well as finish my 60 unfinished maps for HL2 and get my 2 unfinished bachelor's degrees. lol

Don't feel sad, there's still plenty of fuel here for the fire, just
join in and throw a gallon or two. I come from a country were
cursing isn't frowned upon so badly. The only cencored songs I hear
from the radio are either from UK or USA and I personally hate those
beep or a moment of ackward silence parts in the middle of a song
that's clearly supposed to have some curse word in it. Cursing never
killed anyone thus why oppress people who say what they think?

One thing I can say about this thread that others have failed to do is, I can follow the discussion in this one.

Usually when you brainy guys get fired up I lose the flow of the conversation.

One could argue that I was able to follow it to this point simply because my dumb ass can relate to cusswords. One could also suggest that I kept apace because the main players in this discussion aren't that much beyond me in scope.

Naaaah.. You guys are definitely smarter. Its got to be the topic direction. Dumb people and cusswords go together like bread and butter.
