hi guys im new to this mapping lark but with all your tutorials ive managed to get a map together but i have a problem

i dont know how to make water..like in 2fort.. i just wants to make a pool in the middle of my map

There are two kinds of water in HL1

Now mind, I don't have the editor in front of me right this moment but if I recall some have an exclamation point in front of them. Some do not.

Anyway, some are water just because they are water. No settings required. Others must be turned into water by making them into an entity "func_water"

If I remember its this easy. Make your water. right click on it and tie it to entity. Set the entity to func_water. then set the properties. After that I cannot remember.

Anyway, there are tutorials on this.

ok i see... i thought it might be simaler to source but it wouls seem it's easier done for hl1

thanks for the info i will search more for a tut on how to make water...
i was'nt sure if it was brush based or ent based

Water is brush based entity.

try this tutorial.

It may fill in the gaps in my explaination.

set the fx amount to 100 (0 being completely transparent, and 255 being fully opaque).

I have a map with a waterfall that took me a day to make it realistic, I can send it to you if you like, just say the word.

All of the water textures begin with an !

All you need to do is select it [a water texture] and then make the water how you would with any other texture. There you have your water.
