i know this is a stupid question,

i just bought a new comp, and i installed half-life 2 on it  , i started mapping for source but i never installed half-life 1.

i now wanted to make a map for cs again and it doesn't work with source sdk, so i downloaded the normal version of hammer again, but now i don't have the half-life wad :/

does anybody have a site where i can download it :$

EDIT: You can use the .wads that came with CS for CS mapping. You don't
specifically need halflife.wad. Alternately, there's several custom
.wads around that you can use.

Bytheway, another Dutch one! Welcome.

You'll need GCF scape to extract the wads you need from the GCF files that Steam uses.

GCF Scape
.NET Framework 1.1 (needed, since GCF scape is developed using .NET libraries)

You can also visit sites like WadFather and get all the wads you need.

You can use Wally to make your own.

There is none, as im guessing that would be illegal. Im basing that off
of the fact that the wads are part of the game, and and as we know
downloading the game with out buying it is illegal.

GCF scape works. And no, I'm not going to provide a download. I don't care if it's illegal or not, I'm not unpacking mine ... uploading it ... then linking it here. Use GCF scape ... you'll need it for many other things, so learn to use it!

I gave all the links you need and any explinations you need in how to use them ... so ... I'm not sure whatelse to do. You have your answer.

There was an enhanced version of the default HL wad floating around that was used for a competition a while back. You might want to check around for that. They resized the textures to proper dimensions for the HL engine to prevent down-sampling and otherwise perked them up a bit.

The default HL textures were godawful ugly. Unless you are doing a map in the HL1 theme, I'd say the hell with them and get better custom stuff.

Im having this problem too. Even though ive bought HL1 about 3 times,
currently all thats on my comp is the Steam version of HL (i just
tried... i can still run the sp without downloading anything... but
nowhere can i find the hl wads)

Im mapping for NS (a mod for HL), and so far have only been using the
ns.wad. It doesnt have all of the tool textures, like clip and skybox.
I did notice though that there is a wad called 'hlbasics'... i'll try
that out i guess

ooooohkaaay...

first of all... all the hl wads reside in one of the GCF-s.

secondly - there isn't any tool textures. perhaps, if only, the hint
texture but that's more it. no other tools for HL1. Everything else you
have to use as entities.

You've got to extract the wad in case to use skybox texture.

Tools textures come with zhlt.wad, which ship with Zoners custom compile tools.

As for halflife.wad, if you still have your cd, then you can always
install it somewhere the old way and retrieve the .wad file... if you
could get a .cab file viewer you can probably even extract them
directly from the cd.

If I remember correctly PAKScape used to handle this operation. I mean, it may not open .cab files, but it will surely assist you in acquiring the .wad files.

Its an old program but probably findable through google.

The .wad files weren't put into the .pak files, so PAKScape wouldn't be of much use.

As for .pak files, Wally can browse them too, and do much more, so I'd prefer Wally over PAKScape.

Well then, use WinZip, it will open anything up to and including a can of worms.
