It's bad, but I can't say i'm entirely surprised by it. Theres various
sources from both sides of the conflict in Israel saying it's Gods
will. It's just this particular person has a bigger stage to say it
from.

i remember reading an (possible) explaination of one of the old testament prophecies, and it centered on Sharron. it was something to do with Israel bending her knee, but the interpreter was convinced that the grammer/words/whatever that are used in scripture related more to a damaging type bend, like cracking a branch, without it dying.

the interpreter also strongly believed that the knee in question was Sharron, again, something to do with how the text was written, and a claim that the root word of the name Sharron is derived from the word 'knee'.

the upshot was, the interpreter didn't know whether to believe that Sharron would bend his knee to the non-israeli world, or if he would be subject to some sort of breaking at the hands of the big guy. seems like he didn't need to hedge his bets after all.

It's true that this land belongs to the Israeli and that finally, they
will get their promised land, but to say Sharon gets punished for
giving away land... I think that's just weird. That guy seems to
pretend he knows how every profecy will play out, which you often can
only say afterwards.

And to rationalize disease by saying somebody must have sinned... then
that guy didn't read his bible too well... Jesus healed people and told
them not to sin again, he didn't point out their sins and walked away.

So much for 'christian' broadcaster imho.

Quite the poor thing to say on TV -- even as a Catholic myself, what this guy said was out of line.

The Bible has stories in which in a way, "show God's wrath" and I suppose are one of the things that people wonder about. Since God is an all loving God, then why (an example:) would he destory an entire city? It all deals with the concept of sin -- to an extent. I'm not the one to ask about interprepting the bible, and I feel relatively uncomfortable discuing topics in it -- mainly because I'm afraid of mis-interpretation of my views, or what other Catholics or people of other religions would say.

Firstly though, God wouldn't strike someone down for "dividing up his land." Yes, Israel is the "promised land" to the Jews, (I'm trying to remember these thigns off the top of my head, so bare with me) but things have happened to Judea/Israel in history, and not once did God techincally strike down a "specific" person. Firstly, time plays itself out, and God is all knowing, so anything did actually happen to Israel or "God's land" as to how it's being refered to in this case, God would let things play out since God would know things would eventually recover. Another reason for God not "striking down" Shannon, for one, allowing us to have freel and choose to sin or not, and second, God doesn't intervine with our lives very often. I believe the current time is refered to as "God has grown silent" in the sense that he does not intervine, unlike the time of Christ or before Him, where his inteventions were more abundant.

Anyways, discuss this if you feel I've pointed something out wrong -- I don't have a bible sitting in front of me, and I'm working with things that I'm trying to remember :razz:

Ariel Sharon is the Israeli Prime Minister. Since people don't seem to know who he is.

Now, the only thing I've never understood with some people's view is ... how can you believe in something like free will ... then the wrath of God ... before you die ... Doesn't that defeat the purpose of free will? I know Pat Roberts is a douche, but there are people who listen to him and I'm sure there's many who think many things that happen are punishment from God, so I'm just curious how this is explained.

No, within the rules a free will has space to move. But you can't see
if someone loves you or cares for you if he or she doesn't have a free
will.

God doesn't punish immediatly in these times though. My friend has
cancer right now. But he's been a christian for years now and lived
'better' (or however you want to call it that) than a lot of others I
know. Guess what? Time and fortune catches everyone. I believe such
things are a result of the sin humanity lives in rather than the sins
of a person himself. Earth was cursed after Adam and Eva took from the
forbidden fruit, and that's what we often see, the results of the curse
of sin.

God punishes afterwards, but gives us the chance to make it up to Him
while we still live. He wants to restore our lives from this curse and
give us a purpose, He's really good once you get to know Him better.
God is a loving God, we've got our whole lifetime to accept that His
son Jesus died for our sins, but if people reject Him, He will judge
them for their sins.

Of course, there's many points of view on christianity, I can only
advise you to read the Bible yourself and find out about Gods rescue
plan for us. The main thing is to get to know God, not dumbly follow a
certain doctrine or a set of rules. Which happens way too much these
days, with or without a religious paint...

I find this also funny, because when people say they don't believe in god, 9/10 people say "your going to hell"...

Funny eh? Religion is filled with loop holes and problems. Hence I'm not religious. Also in the bible he pretty much forgives everything except suicide- so if this Heaven exists, expect to see Sadam, Stalin, and Hitler there :razz: To me, religion is just like the tooth fairy, or santa- theres morals and issues there, yes, but its just made up- theres nothing to suggest otherwise.
