HL2 is one of the most buggy games ever, steam sucks and is buggy also.

I create simple maps and they cant even compile.
I create rather big map like ofctown_v2 and it will compile fine.

I have to bind all my keys everytime i join hl2dm mp, even tho the readme file is not set on read only.

I cant host a listenserver to test my maps (the few maps that are working, cause of all the bugs.)

Valve suck so much that if you want to send an email to steam at steampowered.com about your 84problems with they're game, you have to log in using your steamID but it doesnt even work!

I would kill them with a railgun if it was possible, and right before i would pull the trigger i would say to them if there is any teletubbies interactive online game, it rules hl2.. why ??? cause it WORKS, you c thats whats its all about.. WORKING! + POW

What happened to my love to half-life ???

It went to the drain when hl2 released.

Gn im going to cry myself to sleep now

And please dont reply all bitchy like "hey we love halflife2, your maps doesnt work cause you probally dont do them right"

Well ive posted my problems on your forums and noone seems to know what is wrong not even after looking on the VMF!

Solution to problem: Quit while you're behind, in the race of mapping for HL2.

The reason you posted this in editing is why?

And your maps most likely don't work because you didn't do them right, just as you said we would say. I've only ever had one or two maps that wouldn't load in the game, and they were due to mistakes.

<span style="color: lightblue;">If you can't figure out how to post in the right forum no wonder you can't get your maps to run.

But seriously, I'm sorry if you find Steam to be buggy -- but all the problems you've listed I've never encountered.

Well, the simple truth is that in most cases it is shoddy craftsmanship. However, if someone else cannot find fault in your map, even after looking in your VMF then the only recourse it to look into your hardware. Maps simply do not bork out "because"

There is always a reason. I personally do not know what your problem may be but, it can only be one of those two reasons. I am not inclined to believe that HL2 sucks for the simple fact that there are literally 1,000's of maps created that are contrary to your claim.

My advice, look really hard at your PC and see if its up to the task. If, and only if you can discount it as the cause then look into your mapping practices. Thats simply the only two REAL reasons for your problem.

In my time, I have looked at several hundred maps created by people who claim to have built them properly, only to discover that they are sloppy. Usually they had poor teachers who knew little more than they themselves did.

You did not begin your career at a mapping site. If I recall, you began at a player site and are probably still to dependent on them for advice because you only come here on occasion and only then when you are totally stumped.

I am betting that if your machine is working properly, it is because you were never trained in a proper mapping technique.

Sorry to be so blunt, but your maps have not shown the improvement that most mappers do after making them for as long as you have. Your player buddies are most likely, your biggest downfall. Most players don't know their ass from a hole in the ground where mapping is concerned.

Good luck solving your troubles. You'll need it.

Ain't that the truth. They're always clamoring for something silly like adding sniper towers.

Orpheus makes a really good point, about both the possibility that it's your hardware, and that players don't know mapping. For the hardware issue, download Prime95 and run the "torture test" for several hours. If it comes up with any errors it means your computer isn't 100% stable. period. If that comes up with errors run Memtest86+ to determine if it's your memory or not. If it's not, it's probably due to overheating, or overclocking. Clean out all the dust from your computer, or lower your clock speed to default. That of course, is if the problem is your hardware.

But seriously, this kind of stuff belongs on the steampowered forums, they thrive off it. The Snarkpit thrives off calm, rational posts that are made to reach a goal, not flames and complaints.

As for the HL2:DM key bindings, just make an autoexec.cfg file in your cfg folder.

Good night, hope you have a good cry

Frissi, I know that English is not your preferred language so I advise you to read each post slowly before you reply. You first instinct (being trained by players) will probably be a retaliatory response to an implied attack on your mapping.

You mapping is bad, but not so much that its beyond fixing. You need to find a mappers site that you are comfortable with and stick with them until you get past this.

The sad truth is, your player buddies didn't do you any favors by encouraging you to continue creating the maps you have released.

You need people who will point out where, and most especially WHEN you screw up.

Look at your PC really hard. If its OK, then your only recourse is to learn how to map.

Its that simple.

/2 cents.

My mapping might not be filled with hint brushes and techincal stuff, but those maps should get beyond the point of compiling...

Orpheus remember goldstar_arena, newest version could compile after i deleted simple brushes and remade them. But after the compile the bsp was 18mb's!

Ive released three maps dm_deluxe_v1, ofctown_v2, desert_rose_v1 they all work fine but they are more complex then any of them maps that dont work compiling or are way to big after compile :grenade:

Know what i will do... im going to upload a zip containing all of the maps that work strange and all the material files and stuff.

And if any superduder like you guys have time check them out you can see how bad they are, i tell you they arent that bad that they shouldnt even comile :-(

No, that would be shifting the responsibility to people who have absolutely no interest in your problem. Since you haven't even bothered to make many, if ANY friends around here.

The best solution is to begin from square #1.

Start a work in progress thread in the mapping section. Post screens from Day #1. Show us how the map is advancing and HOPE that a few of us will comment upon them.

With some comments perhaps we can forestall your map going bad this time.

I personally, have given up riding white horses to the rescue of people who have really no interest in what I have been telling them for a few years.

Show Snarkpit that its more than just another site you sometimes visit. Be a member, not a nuisance.
Seriously Frissi. Its nobodies problem, except yours. This superdude has said all he can. The next step, is yours.

If any advanced mapper takes a look on those maps he can see there is nothing wrong with them maps.

Its just hl2 its so fragile.

Frissi's grasp of English is spotty at best Stadric. I would say he was being sarcastic if I had to put a definition on his post.

He never has accepted/adjusted well to Snarkpit.

Leave him be until he comes to terms with... His problem.
He is still putting the entire blame elsewhere. It could be mostly something else's fault, but I am doubtful.

You have to understand that there must be a reson for all problems you will ever face with HL2 mapping.

Just the other day I compiled a map for the 15th time and it stopped
working, plus it would crash HL2. So rather than blame valve and
steam I searched through my logs, look at my map, did selective
compiles and found the problem. I had a logic_auto trigger
something that it shouldn't have triggered. I fixed the cause and
thus the problem. I've been mapping for 6 years and made a simple
mistake, the only way I was able to find it is becuase I've been
mapping so long and make mistakes, all the time. I bet I've made
the same mistake you've made in your map.

my point is, spend the time you would spend bitching and find the solution

agrees with Dr. Glass

I've been mapping for 8 years. Over the large varity of engines that I have made maps for, I have learned that most mistakes are human error. And a large majority of these problems are hard to find, but findable.

Look over it again, and show it to us, another set of eyes can save you weeks of searching
